We recently received some news from ManyVids via press release.
A message from Jonathan Stewart said that ManyVids had an “exciting announcement about [their] payouts to MV Stars.”
“[A]fter a series of 80 percent payout rate promos,” Stewart wrote, “[ManyVids is] now offering an 80 percent payout rate on all Custom Vids with this rate being permanent.”
The elaborated in the body of the press release and wrote:
ManyVids is starting off the New Year with great news! Over the last few months, we’ve run a number of 80 percent payout promotions, which have been met with remarkably positive feedback and have been hugely successful by all possible metrics. Because of the commitment and enthusiasm of the MV Stars, the 80 percent payout on all “Make it Rain” and Tributes is now running indefinitely and MV is now extending the 80 percent payout on Custom Vids forever!
ManyVids strives for transparency and exists to put the MV Stars and MV Members first. MV has a social mission and believes in empowering careers while making the world a more just and sexually liberated place. ManyVids is always striving to implement business practices that are open, fair and profitable for all involved.
MV was motivated to keep this as our rate after hearing about another adult site built around user-submitted clips and camming that advertises a 100 percent payout on Custom Vids but hides a charge in there for the user. For example, this other site tells performers you’re getting 100 percent for a Custom Vid, so the content creator sells it for $100, but when the customer buys the vid, they actually pay $140 at checkout. The customer pays 40 percent more, and this kind of misleading tactic leads to confusion. Basically, the content creator is really earning 71 percent of the final price. However, ManyVids’ 80 percent payout on Custom Vids comes with no hidden catches or fees so that it works for everyone involved!
This fantastic promotion runs forever, and ManyVids sincerely hopes this makes our partners in success, the MV Stars, even more passionate about creating new content and further sparks their entrepreneurial drive. 2019 is going to be a breakthrough year!
This is interesting.
I agree that the other “adult site built around user-submitted clips and camming that advertises a 100 percent payout” is using misleading language by not making clear that members and fans are paying additional fees on top of what they are paying for the content itself. Why not just make clear to models and content producers that something like this is happening: “You will get 100 percent of what you set your price as, and the person who purchases the clip will then also pay a [whatever] percent fee on top of that”?
Anyone who works with an online platform certainly knows that the platform is providing services that are worth compensation — traffic, brand recognition, online security, a litany of legal things, consumer comfort, payment processing and more. There are reasons why it costs money and/or a percentage of sales to sell content via these platforms.
Also, taking a percentage of a sale is not unusual at all. Amazon does it — accepted and expected. Not disclosing these fees is pretty shady though, even through the little linguistic trick used in this example.
Ultimately, these platforms will have to duke it out for your participation, and this is just another battle in their overall war for your attention. Make sure to do your homework, and select the platform that has what you as the content creator are looking for.
