The world of webcam is a competitive one. At any given moment, thousands of models — often all on the same site — are all looking to carve out their own little corner of the market. When looking to stand out, that’s a pretty big crowd. So, how do you?
One fantastic strategy is tailoring your cam life to a specific demographic — a specific group united by erotic proclivity or taste. By doing the work to meet people’s specific needs, you may decrease the overall number of people interested in your shows, but you will heighten the interest of those who are.
Picking the Niche that’s Right… For YOU!
There are many niche options to choose from, but one thing is key: Select one that’s at least somewhat appealing to you.
This could be something that you are already a practitioner of in your personal life, or something that you specialize in in your off-cam professional work. It could even be something that you are relatively new to, but are legitimately interested in. Everyone was “new to whatever” at some point, and camming is a way to experiment with your own fantasies as well. Don’t let your own newness put you off!
The key point here is to pick what’s right for you. For example, if you’ve dabbled in a little dom play and enjoyed it, try bringing that to your shows. If it’s something you’re uncomfortable with (which is totally ok — not everyone is into everything), then this will translate into your performance.
Try to link your niche to facets of your personality for the best outcome both for you and your viewers, and don’t try to force your own interest in a niche just because you think it has earning potential. Not only will this make the experience less that fun for you as a model, members and potential clients will see right through you.
Niche and Sub-Niche
You can combine niches to make a truly distinctive show. Mistress Medusa is a dom specializing in smoking fetish cam shows. This kind of specialized content can generate more income than more general or generic shows.
Medusa explained, “I chose to focus on smoking fetish because I have a smoking fetish. I believe I’m successful in this particular demographic because I understand what smoking fetishists are looking for in content.”
“Most of my income comes from my fetish stuff, and I take a lot of pride in my content. I know exactly what my audience is looking for and know the ins and outs of the fetish. I consider myself to be a well-rounded, experienced fetishist but I know my strong suit lies in the smoking content,” she added.
Role Play
Another accessible way to add a niche slant to your shows is a little role play. And the best thing about role play: No matter what the internet may tell you, there is no “correct” way to do it! It’s your performance, so your character can be embodied however you want.
Touches of role play allow you to change your show each time. Investing in a little costuming and some simple props opens the door to exploring myriad fantasies. From medical fetish fantasies to a strict nun dishing out punishment, the only restriction is your imagination. If you enjoyed drama at school, you’ll love this opportunity to play act.
Doing Fun Stuff
Having fun within your shows is vital to the chemistry with your audience. There are many exciting (and simple) ways to do this. Allow your viewers to select song choices for a karaoke strip tease if you enjoy singing. Paint your toes on cam for the foot fetishists in your audience. You can also incorporate special skills and hobbies you maybe never even considered. For example, X-rated ventriloquist Veronica Chaos, who uses puppets in her shows to create a business model which stands out!
Finding your own angle doesn’t have to be extreme or even too elaborate. Meeting a need which isn’t often met is the key to creating your own niche market within the cam community.
Promo, Promo, Promo
I recently wrote about Riley Scarlett’s Rocket League cam shows, which incorporate teledildonic butt plugs. Hacking her plug to work like a rumble pack gave Scarlett a fantastic niche draw to her show — and her natural love for gaming shone through in the interview. This combination of unique and interest is what makes this a successful niche for her.
You might not be quite so techy as Scarlett (Hack a teledidonic butt plug, whaaaat?!), but a teledildonic toy can add a great spin to a regular show. Allowing premium viewers to bid for the right to have control of the toy for a one to one can generate additional income as well as interest. This is particularly handy if your niche is to be submissive.
But none of this works is people don’t know about it, hence promo, promo, promo.
Getting the word out there that you’re offering something new and exciting is important. Use your social media channels to create your own buzz. Create a wave with your promo and generate curiosity to bring people to see what the fuss is about. Marketing yourself is an important part of capitalizing on your chosen niche.
In essence, finding your niche is about refining your own unique webcam brand — and your own unique spin is what makes you the most important brand asset. And the stronger your brand, the larger your loyal following will grow.
