We recently received a question from a model (copyedited slightly):
I could use so much advice. I am a porn/webcam model and I do videos as well, but I am not having luck with men tipping me on [cam]. Every time I am on, I barely make anything but I hear girls are making bank. I’ve been doing it for seven years, but no matter how I up my game or try, it doesn’t work. What can I do?
This question is giant – so many factors could be at play. It’s almost totally unanswerable, but also important to consider what advice people would offer based on their experience or perspective.
We decided to reach out to some super experienced, yet super different, webcam professionals to see what advice they would offer this model.
Recently, we were able to share what Vanessa Eve, Amberly Rothfield and Catherine Tayler had to say. Today, we hear from LadyBellaKush — a serial entrepreneur and sex worker who has been in adult entertainment for over ten years, most recently as the driving force behind CamGirlDollHouse (CGDH).
Bella writes:
Hello discouraged model,
First, I would like to say is do not compare yourself to other models. This is the best way to end up discouraged and sometimes even self-loathing. Being a model in this industry in 2018 is hard work. There are 10,000,000,000,000 other models online, which makes it easy to get lost in the crowd.
My second tip is to step back and see what your skills are, what your look is and what you can do with both to make an entertaining show. By show, I mean not only your live stream but also your social media, your Snapchat, all of it. When becoming a cam model, the only way to become successful is by becoming a brand. You must stick with it as well. By this I mean if you are a BBW, make sure you tag BBW and brand yourself that way. If you are a MILF and look like a MILF, use it — brand it, box it up and sell it. If you look really young (it only lasts so long, so use it) brand barely legal and so on. Branding yourself will put you in a direction of finding fans who like something specific and makes it easier to find you — and pay you.
Third, keep your name the same on ALL platforms. This is probably one of the most important things. If fans cannot find you, they are not going to tip you. Men are creatures of habit, so they do not want to remember 35 different names for you on different platforms.
Finally, be realistic. While some girls can bring in $1,000 a day, some (most) bring in $100 a day. Now, this next thing is going to sound kind of cruel — but this is the real world, and the world is cruel. No matter what your parents told you, it is not what is on the inside that counts in the modeling world. While personality is, for sure, a key factor of being a successful model, people see you visually before they interact and learn about your great personality.
So in a nutshell, know what is realistic and do not set yourself up to fail. Set realistic goals. Also, do what you say you are going to do with the fans you do have that tip. Never ever be that model who promises content for tips and then does not deliver. That is a fast way to lose clients.
I would love to talk with you and see how I can help because, in truth, it is hard to give advice to someone when I do not know more information. Each model is different and each requires different things to become successful. I will leave you with this though: I know many models in this industry, and I can tell you most live paycheck to paycheck and most work from dusk ’til dawn. There is only a handful who are living in the 1 percent. You must stand out or be built like a goddess. It is just the facts.
