Just like the top of your head, your nether regions are yours for the styling. You can be traditional, conservative, wild, bold, creative and more. The choice is yours.
Styling your nether regions, however, can take some time and effort. If you enjoy keeping your bikini line or entire bikini area free of hair, you know that waxing isn’t always an option –especially if you’re pressed for time.
Luckily, there are some tricks you can use to help you shave your way to a hairless and bump-free bikini area quickly.
Forget shaving cream
Shaving cream is one of those products that you tend to forget you need until you really need it, and by that time, it’s too late. So, why not use something for shaving that you always have in your bathroom?
Jacqueline Francis, professionally known as Jacq The Stripper and author of Striptastic!, swears that using conditioner as “shaving cream” is always a safe bet. The conditioner adds some beneficial slip for your shave, Cosmopolitan reported.
One great conditioner brand that also makes amazing shampoo and other body care products is Acure Organics. Its Ultra-Hydrating Conditioner is $9.99, made with organic ingredients and cruelty-free.
Shave the right way with a good razor
If you’re looking for a super close shave, shaving against the hair works best. But when you shave against the way your hair grows, irritation can occur. Given this, shaving with your hair can actually result in a smoother, better shave.
Whether you choose to shave with or against your hair growth, make certain you use a fresh razor that’s sharp. “If you’re dragging the razor over your hair and it’s taking a while to remove everything, it’s time to switch out your razor,” Francis said.
Francis also added that owning a super expensive razor isn’t necessary. As long as you like what you’re using—and the razor is sharp—you should have a nice, safe shave.
Skin care for after the shave
After shaving, you can apply a little bit — emphasis on a little bit — of coconut oil to the freshly shaven area. This simple, inexpensive solution really helps keep your freshly shaven skin moisturized.
Later in the day, you also can apply Witch Hazel to the area. Francis swears that Witch Hazel, specifically Dickinson’s Original Witch Hazel, helps keep the dreaded post-shave “bikini bump” at bay. A 16oz bottle of this “pore perfecting solution” is less than $10 from Amazon. It’s also available at most drugstores and big box emporiums.
Another way to keep bikini bumps and razor burn under control is placing Vitamin E on the area.
You can also help keep your skin healthy with pre-shave care. To keep skin fresh and shave-ready, keep your pre-shave area exfoliated. One great option is Shea Moisture’s 100 percent Virgin Coconut Oil Ground Coffee Scrub. It’s priced at most retailers around $14.99.
Mistakes happen
And remember, if you make a mistake while shaving, don’t sweat it. Francis explains that everyone who has their bikini area in the spotlight uses concealer.
We suggest using a concealer that’s lightweight, like e.l.f. Cosmetics Beautifully Bare Lightweight Stick. It’s an affordable at around $4, cruelty-free and comes in five skin tone hues.
(This isn’t a picture of the Beautifully Bare sticks, but it’s e.l.f. products nonetheless. They have a really nice Insta.)
