The other day I heard this from one of my mentors: Success lies in doing the mundane.
I am going to be honest with you. The first time I heard the word mundane was from watching Netflix’s “Shadowhunters.” On the show, the Mundanes are the human beings, and Shadowhunters are human-angel hybrids who protect humans by hunting down demons.
Compared to being a Shadowhunter, being a Mundane seems pretty boring. The funny thing is, just based on these characters, the definition of mundane is exactly what you think it is –- lacking interest or excitement; dull. So, according to my mentor, success lies in doing the boring stuff, the everyday stay, the grind.
I’ve been working as a cam model full-time since March 2003. I am still working, and I can tell you the mundane of it all can feel like you are in a time loop. Being motivated to work even when you don’t feel like it is a huge part of working for yourself — even more when you are working from home.
Every experienced, successful model has tips and tricks for getting through the mundane. Here are some of mine.
Vision and personal development
Think about your vision for the future. It has to be so big and so moving and even earth-shattering that it gets you to feel heartbreaking emotions if you do not achieve it.
This might seem foreign to some, but I believe thinking about your vision for the future sets the foundation for creating success. Thinking about your vision and actually creating it becomes your compass. You always know where you are going, and it becomes your safety harness to pull you back in when something or someone tries to pull you off-course.
This was something I had to figure out during my period of burnout. I’ve learnt I was burning out because my goals where not big enough. I was only functioning on small-goal level when I needed to think bigger and long-term, especially since, for me, being a cam model is more then just how I earn money. It has become a lifestyle career.

Keep your vision in the forefront of your mind
If being a cam model is going to be more then just paying off debt and going to school, then you honestly have to think big. You need to get down to the root of it all, to the point where you clearly know your why and what it looks like. You need to know this so well that you get emotional the second someone tries to question it. Then, and only then, do you know you have your vision.
Think of all the things you really want to accomplish, experience and have memories of. Then, find ways to keep these pieces of your vision in the forefront of your mind.
I suggest creating a vision board and/or writing a word-for-word description that you can repeat to yourself every moment you can. It has to be way more than just repeating your vision to yourself when you wake up in the morning and before you go to bed. I find the more quality time I spend envisioning my vision, the more motivated I feel to get on with doing the task I need to bring my vision to life.

Think about your personal brand
When it gets hard to do what needs to be done — so you can achieve what you want to achieve, so you can have what you want to have, so you can feel what you want to feel when you have it –- you need to have some defenses. You need to build your mental armor.
The way I build my mental armor is by reaching out for wisdom from a lot of personal-brand entrepreneurs. Different from branding, your personal brand is what you’re known for, what you stand for (and against), all your products and services, as well as the brands, services and people you associate with. A personal-brand entrepreneur is someone who has created a movement of followers out of their personal brand.
Chris Ducker is one of the first personal brand entrepreneurs. He said, “When you build the business of you, nobody can copy it. It’s 100-percent original.” Ducker inspired me to understand why I want what I want and why I need to achieve it for myself.
The first step you can take to help achieve this is to surround yourself with people and communities who are on a path similar path to yours. You need to surround yourself with people who have a successful mindset and proven results. Education mixed with inspiration and entertainment is what helps make the daily task of mundane activities more enjoyable.

Invest in yourself
You must invest in yourself. I am not talking about going out buying yourself lingerie or toys and getting your hair and nails done. Yes those things are needed and they can be fun, but temporary fixes to build your self-confidence, self-esteem and self worth are exactly that: temporary.
When I say “invest in yourself,” I am talking about investing in personal-development training. When you invest time and ,maybe, money into learning more about yourself, you build confidence, self-esteem and self-worth.
Find yourself, heal yourself, love yourself and be passionate about life and the things you experience. Get fit psychically and mentally. Grow and nurture friendships, meet new people, create memories and put yourself in a position to learn to build an empire for yourself.
Being a successful cam model is more then logging on and performing shows. Yes, that part is our job where we do have a chance to make money, but if you have a weak image of yourself, you will have a hard time sticking out those long webcam shifts and dealing with empty cam rooms and slow moneymaking days.
It’s really about getting better than you were yesterday.
