Technology can be a scary thing, and according to new information, it could get scarier.
AI-enhanced sex dolls
Sex toys have come a long way in the past 20 years. Let’s look at sex dolls as an example. Dolls, such as the sexual playthings that are made by the RealDoll company, are hyper-realistic. Apparently, the dolls soon will evolve to the point they can know specific things about their owner.
RealDoll’s Realbotix wing is working on Harmony, a prototype robotic version of the RealDoll that is equipped with a head programmed with artificial intelligence capabilities. According to Jezebel, the AI-enhanced doll will be for sale for $15,000 at the end of the year. The first run will include 1,000 dolls.
“Harmony smiles, blinks and frowns,” The Guardian reported. “She can hold a conversation, tell jokes and quote Shakespeare. She’ll remember your birthday… what you like to eat, and the names of your brothers and sisters. She can hold a conversation about music, movies and books. And of course, Harmony will have sex with you whenever you want.”
Harmony is able to remember information via voice and facial recognition software, motion-sensing technology and animatronic engineering.
So, if this doll can learn about you, could someone else learn about you via the doll?
Right now, the answer is “not likely,” but there are some sources — albeit “out there” sources — who report the dolls could become dangerous if hacked.
Killer sex dolls?
The Daily Star Online recently interviewed Dr. Nick Patterson, a cybersecurity lecturer, about the dangers of AI-enhanced robots. Patterson thinks “connecting your sexbot to WiFi isn’t just a convenient way to keep track of your daily pumps. It also apparently makes you vulnerable to cyber attacks from hackers that want to twist your naughty bits off,” Jezebel reported.
“Hackers can hack into a robot or a robotic device and have full control of the connections, arms, legs and other attached tools like in some cases knives or welding devices,” Patterson said.
Although this particular killer sex doll angle comes from the Daily Star Online, a not very reputable source, other tech and AI experts, like Elon Musk, think that AI could destroy humanity. However, it should be noted that Bill Gates, Microsoft founder, thinks Musk’s concerns aren’t valid.
What this means for you
We’ve said it before, but we’ll say it again: Be mindful when using any technology, new or old. Your data is everywhere and can be used against you. Cam models always should operate in a safety-first mode.
Also, if your likeness is ever used for an interactive sex doll or toy, consider warning your fans about protecting their data, too. Sure, it’s not your job to protect your fans or anyone who buys a sex toy, but everyone could use a friendly reminder now and again.
