We recently gathered some must-do insights from movers, shakers and ass-kickers around the webcam community. Our research appeared in a guest post on the super-sex-positive website SluttyGirlProblems: “5 Must-Dos for New Webcam Models” (12 July 2017).
We spoke to Anna Bell Peaks, Natalie Star and Harriet Sugarcookie for highly informed perspectives from models and media moguls.
Peaks, who’s currently one of the biggest cam stars in the industry, offered her personal three-point list to setting yourself on the right path from the get-go. Star, who is an exclusive top model on Flirt4Free and a coach/manager for Major League Cams, also discussed the importance of paying attention to broadcast platforms’ rules and terms of service. Rules are in place for a reason, according to Star.
Sugarcookie discussed the importance of knowing your own brand before launching it into the world.
We also talked to YNOT Cam luminaries Lola Davina and Princess Accountaholic for practical advice regarding wellbeing and business basics, respectively. Last but definitely not least, we spoke with Jamie Rodriguez at Flirt4Free for a little network-level insight.
According to Rodriguez, “It’s important for new models to realize that successful camming isn’t something that happens without effort or overnight. Top models have achieved their successes through dedication, consistency and truly making an effort to connect with their fans. If a new model treats camming seriously, they can earn serious money.”
We also were very lucky to get some insights from Chaturbate Chief Operating Officer Shirley Lara. Because of submission deadlines, we weren’t able to include Lara’s insights in the original article. They are super-helful though, so we’re sharing them here as an exclusive bonus from one of the most visible leaders in our community.
According to Lara, new models should:
- Use social media. Direct traffic to your chatroom by being active on social media platforms like Twitter, Tumblr and Instagram. It is helpful for models to watch their social media stats to see which type of posts are receiving the most engagement. Whatever posts create the most engagement are the type that should be repeated the most often.
- Be patient and consistent. Acquiring a fan base takes time, and remaining motivated can be hard when working alone from home. Keep yourself on track and increase your follower interaction by posting a weekly schedule of your cam shows on your profile and your social media, and then sticking to schedule.
- Be creative. Come up with new and unusual ideas for your cam shows, promotional images and content. Keeping your fans engaged and promoting yourself positively are the keys to success.
- Crowd source. Make an Amazon wishlist and ask your fans to help you out with anything you may need to cam. To start, you can request gifts that improve your cam setup: an HD webcam, items to build a camming wardrobe and a variety of sex toys to use in future shows, for example. Your fans want you to be successful, so they’ll want to help you.
Thanks so much to all the people who weighed in to make the SluttyGirlProblems post great. We were very happy to have the opportunity to share some legit cam tips in a civilian space because, like we said, “every successful person and every media darling have at least one thing in common: They were all newbies their first day on the job. When you’re thinking of getting into any industry, it’s always a great idea to do some independent research, and even to get advice from people more experienced than you… The same goes for getting into webcamming.”
Thanks to SluttyGirlProblems for helping us get the word out via authentic, insightful information. Real talk like this helps people be strategic and informed, ideally avoiding pitfalls from the very beginning.
