Just what you need — another selfie app.
Futurefly’s Miso Happy is a 3D selfie maker described as an “augmented reality sticker faceapp.” It’s billed as “your 3D selfie effect” in the iTunes App Store.
The app is simple, really: Take a selfie, then splice said selfie into one of many animated cartoon suits. You can rock out, disco dance, skate, play coy/fetch, chill or act bananas in some bananas way. There’s also a “shy Anime schoolgirl” and a sumo wrestler suit.
Though the app is simple in essence, according to Tech Crunch, it’s definitely for folks who selfie at a high level. For those people, Miso Happy provides a fun new twist to keep their gaze-game up.
Miso Happy is AR — augmented reality — meaning the app provides a view of a physical, real-world environment where “real” elements are augmented by tech-generated sensory input like sound, video, graphics or even GPS data.
So, once you’ve snapped a photo, generated your 3D selfie and dressed it in the animated suit of your choice, you/selfie you are then overlaid against the real-world backdrop of your choice. Oh, and you also can zoom in and add emojis and text and such. Finally, once you’re happy with your Miso Happy you, your content — Is it considered a video? A pic? Both? — can be shared to many of your social media feeds.
Per Pocket Gamer, the technology here is quite complex.
“We’ve been trying to crack the face-tech thing for a while now,” Futurefly Chief Product Officer Oskari Häkkinen told the website. “With each version we thought we were there, but testers weren’t happy enough with the results. But we did it, finally, and managed to solve the challenge of your face in AR, which is essential for content to feel relevant and worth sharing.
“Miso Happy has been a super fun, but very challenging, project,” Häkkinen added.
So, here’s the thing with Miso Happy: Why? Why you in a sumo suit with spinning stickers in the IRL subway? Why you as a surfer on a paddle board chilling with smiling turtle friends?
Well, if I have to ask you that question, then the Miso Happy app probably isn’t for you. But for people who may be referred to as Social Media Masters, Miso Happy is a great way to diversify your content, share your creativity with your guys and move beyond rainbow vomit and duck face. #winwin
