Nikki Night Tells All (Part 1): De-Indexing & Day Jobs

If you are — or if you’ve ever thought about being — a cam performer, then Nikki Night would like to introduce herself to you.

Night is head of performer training and development at Cam4. Previously, she was the online vixen known as Violet Night.

“I have worked at CAM4 HQ for almost four years now, and I never thought in my wildest dreams that I would have a job like this,” she said.

In Part 1 of our interview, we talk about day jobs, de-indexing, Hot Girls Wanted and life’s interesting paths.

YNOT Cam: So, let’s start with a little bit of background: How did you go from model to head of performer training and development?

Nikki Night: The opportunity to come work at CAM4 came about when an employee’s husband asked my sister — his favorite local bartender — if she would be interested in applying. Luckily for me, she trusted this wasn’t a scam and told them to contact me.

To be honest, I was hesitant to take this job. I wasn’t sure if I wanted to leave my online life being my own boss, and working 9 to 5 was something I felt I had escaped by being a camgirl. Obviously, you know which way this story goes.

So, what’s it like working a “day job?” Total mind-numbing grind?

I’ve had many challenges in my role as Nikki, but the most memorable one was also the most unexpected. Never in my life have I had to think on a global level before. It’s amazing how locally we think until we are told to approach everything on a worldwide scale, or view the “whole egg” as our [chief executive officer] puts it. This new perception lets me see the camming universe and the art of education in a totally unique way. I hope I never stop learning, for the performers’ sake. I love performers. Performers are hands down the best part of my day; they are the best example of humanity you could ever wish to know.

Fun fact: I’m in a secret competition with a woman who works in accounting. She gets, like, a million fun things delivered to the office every day, and it makes me crazy jealous. So, I started getting my online shopping delivered to the office so I can casually open things in front of her. Today, for example, I got body jewelry in the mail — and immediately after I opened it, she got two things delivered to her. AUGH!

What made you want to cam in the first place?  

Poverty. Poverty brought me to camming, but that’s not what made me start doing it. I have always been a sexually dramatic person, so the idea of getting naked on the internet sounded fun, and to be quite honest it wasn’t my first time being naked in front of a camera. I would have started years earlier if I’d been introduced to it or had a computer. That’s where my girlfriend comes in. She called me out of the blue and told me I should try “internet modeling.” I had no idea what she was talking about, but by the end of that conversation I was asking her if I could masturbate while dressed as a pirate.

After that conversation, I enjoyed almost three years online until CAM4 came along. A lot of what I do as Nikki comes from my experiences as Violet. Basically, I just try to give performers the tools and info I wish I had when I was a performer.

An interesting segue in terms of giving people tools and knowledge. How do you feel about the Hot Girls Wanted: Turned On documentary series using models’ Periscope footage (among many other things) without their consent ?

This doc makes me sad, because it’s beautifully shot and there are some seriously kick-ass people in it, but the controversy makes it unsupportable. It’s kind of ironic they did the exact opposite of what their movie was encouraging people to do: treat the adult industry like humans.

It makes me feel like they used that angle to get exposure, but in the end, took advantage of those people and now the positive aspects of the doc are useless. It’s irresponsible, just like the movie before it.

So in light of Hot Girls Wanted (among so many other examples), what can models do to protect themselves from unauthorized use of their image and assets?

The general rule is: If you don’t want it on the internet, don’t share it. Watermark your images with your username, and only broadcast on your cam site. A lot of scamming/recording comes from Skype shows, but not all.

Any reputable site will respect a watermark and comply with a DMCA takedown notification. For the illegal sites that are run by assholes, follow the steps below. This is the process for removal, called de-indexing. De-indexing makes the site harder to find using Google, and Google will remove your content.

How you do this:

1. Find every link for your videos that you want to take down by doing a thorough search on a few different search engines(Google,Bing, metacrawler, etc).
2. Fill out this form: Google Copyright Removal
3. Fill out the form. Don’t use your real name on the form. Use your camming name, just to be safe.

You need to do a separate request for each link you want removed.

Google will then remove your content and de-index that site. The more people that use this form and de-index pirate sites, the better . It gets them in trouble with Google.
