There are all sorts of ways you can diversify your income stream. Money coming from multiple sources is never a bad idea.
One interesting and potentially lucrative idea is shooting and selling clips. With sites like Clips4Sale, ManyVids and iWantClips, this is pretty simple.
Basically, what happens is this: You shoot some of your own content — a clip — and open a studio account on the site or sites of your choice. The site(s) then host your clip, offering it to a broad range of audiences and viewers. Each time your clip is downloaded/viewed, the producer (you!) earns a share of the revenue — a portion of the overall price paid to view your clip. You share the amount with the site because they’re doing a lot of work hosting and serving your content. Once your rev-share balance stacks up to a pre-set minimum, you get a payout from the site. Easy peasy.
Of course, each clips site is different. They may cater to audiences that do or do not dig the type of content you are selling, for instance, and each site has its own rev-share percentage amounts and payout schedules. These are things to consider when signing up. You also must make sure your clips agreement doesn’t contradict any terms set forth by your broadcast network. But aside from that, these types of sites are an interesting way to diversify your income streams.
In March, Alex Coal explained to YNOT Cam a distinct advantaged of the “selling clips” model:
When I shoot a [clip], I usually own it completely, which gives me more control over how I am marketed and where my content is posted, and allows me to sell that content for any price I want for as long as I want. I could shoot a video today and sell it until the day I die. This is a risk, because it’s possible that no one buys the video I shot, but it can also really pay off. My best-selling video of all time on ManyVids has raised over $3,000 since I shot it. I never would have gotten paid that much for that shoot with a [conventional porn production] company.
Main point being, there’s a lot of opportunity in clips. Goddess Indira, who markets videos through iWantClips and other platforms, said she’s a believer in diversifying income streams and investing in her future.
YNOT Cam: Tell us a little bit about yourself.
Goddess Indira: This August will officially mark my one-year anniversary on iWantClips. I am 27 years old, and I am originally from Chicago but now call Asheville, N.C., home. My favorite thing about my career is by far the freedom, while the most challenging part of my work is maintaining the freedom, as I do work for myself. One fun fact about me that people don’t know: I love to street race and work on my car.
What made you want to get started in the online sex industry?
I originally started in the sex industry to release stress, but after re-locating from Chicago and quitting my job in the medical field, I found myself prospering from my fetish, so I made it my career.
Tell us a bit more about findom and edging. What’s great about them? What’s challenging?
Honestly, what’s not great about them? Having men weak to their knees begging to send you money just so they can continue stroking — it’s a complete power exchange and mindfuck all in one. I found myself catering to these kinks as I used to model. And while I can be demanding during sessions, talking to the camera is much different, which I would say can be a challenge.
Does diversifying your income streams between cam and clips help you connect with and satisfy more fans? Is it difficult to balance between the two?
I do both cam shows and custom clip requests, and I absolutely think having a diverse income revenue is the key to success — not only for connecting with fans, but for future investments. Everyone has their own business plan, but for me, no, it is not difficult balancing the two as I am pretty much the same person all around.
