Nothing is hotter than a cool pair of shades.
Except maybe you!
However, sunglasses can really drain your bank account, so for camming, the best course of action is a cheap pair.
Why? Several reasons.
One, expensive shades mean you probably can’t afford more than one or two. In your shows, you’ll probably want a lot of different looks, so it can be cost prohibitive.
Two, I’ve had my share of pricey sunglasses and I’ve always loved them, but if you’re prone to losing things, you too know the sorrow of paying $300-$500 for fancy designer ones, then accidentally leaving them at some bar never to be found again. Are you willing to sink all your cash into one pair then be left empty handed and unable to afford another for your next show?
Three, it can get rough in the cam room, is it worth the risk of breaking your pricey sunglasses while rolling around on your mattress?
Four, if you’ve dropped mega moola for those designer Gucci’s, you’ll feel guilty not wearing them even if they’re out of style. With a low-cost pair, you can pitch or donate them and trade up.
Save the expensive shades for your everyday life and opt for the inexpensive ones for camming.
Of course, there is a difference in quality between the two.
In general, high-end sunglasses will have better UV protection and lenses as explained in this article from Huffpost. On the flip side, as reported on by All About Vision, not all upscale shades are better and not all cheap ones are worse.
“Expensive sunglasses may look great, but aside from the price tag, is there really that much of a difference between designer sunglasses and that $5 pair at the souvenir shop? As long as they both provide 100% UV protection, no. In many cases, that jacked-up price is for the name rather than any real functional improvements.”
The whole UV issue is a moot point anyhow as you’re normally not out in the sun when camming.
In that light, literally, it doesn’t make sense to empty your pocketbook for cam shades.
Instead go for some cool low-priced ones that will look great!
Check out these sites:
Greek Glasses – they carry some of the most adorable heart-shaped glasses out there. I personally own two pairs and can attest to their quality. Another fun design are these fire shades which don’t appear to have UV protection so make sure they’re only for the cam room.
Vooglam – Can’t see without a prescription? You can’t beat this site for price and cuteness. They also have a way to upload your photo to virtually try the lenses on. I’ve bought several pairs from Vooglam, and they always look great, arrive quickly considering they’re coming from abroad, and last.
Etsy – They have some of the coolest shades out there that you won’t find elsewhere. A simple search will uncover tons of unique items at reasonable prices. Check out these awesome bat wing glasses to accessorize a show where you want to add a little goth.
Enjoy the summer camming with your new sunnies!
