One of the reasons I started camming was because the initial investment was lower compared to other jobs, however some basic gear is required to get started.
First and foremost, you’ll need a computer or laptop to stream your content.
Ideally, you’ll want a device with a fast processor and plenty of RAM to ensure smooth streaming and in order to have a better view of yourself and the chat windows, you will also need a large monitor – at least 15 inches.
Even basic PC/laptops have enough power to successfully stream your shows, however, if you aren’t technically inclined, these are my recommendations:
- Processor: Get an Intel Core i5 or i7 processor, or an AMD Ryzen 5 or 7. These are fast enough to handle multiple applications running at once, which is essential when multistreaming.
- RAM: Make sure to have at least 8GB of RAM, the more the better. This will help ensure smooth performance when running multiple applications simultaneously.
- Graphics card: If you plan on using your device to stream video games as well as camming, you’ll want a dedicated graphics card. Look for an NVIDIA or AMD graphics card with at least 2GB of video RAM.
- Storage: The bigger the better, as video files take up a lot of space. Try to get at least a 256GB solid-state drive (SSD) and consider adding an external hard drive (HDD) for extra storage.
In addition to your computer or laptop, you’ll also need a high-quality webcam.
Look for a device that can capture high-definition video of at least 1080p/30fps, if you want to stream at a higher definition like 4K don’t forget that your internet connection should be fast enough to support it. You can find Chaturbate recommendations HERE.
Popular webcam models are Logitech C920 and Razer Kiyo, both of which are very good and affordable. If your budget is tight you may want to consider using your laptop integrated webcam. If you don’t have any other choice go for it but remember that the quality will be much lower than a dedicated webcam and that you won’t be able to move it around.
Lighting is also very important when it comes to camming.
While you can get started with basic practical lighting, investing in some dedicated lights can help you create a more flattering and engaging environment for your viewers. Some options are ring lights, softboxes and LED panels, all of which can help you create a more professional-looking stream. Cheap options are available – do a search on Amazon and you can find some good lighting for less than $30.
In addition, there are some accessories which I consider very important that have hugely improved my camming experience.
A light tripod is a great investment, as it stabilizes your camera, and you can set it at different angles.
A microphone is also very helpful, because you can keep it closer to you and improve your audio quality – even a cheap external microphone is better than the one on the webcam. Other accessories you might want to consider, which can be specific to your set up and seasons, include a wireless keyboard and mouse, which can help you control your computer or laptop from a distance and a silent fan/heater to keep you cool during the summer and warm during the winter.
Ultimately, the gear you choose will depend on your specific needs and preferences, as well as your budget.
With some careful planning (even with basic gear) you can create a high-quality, engaging stream that will help you connect with your audience and start off a successful career in the world of camming.
