In real life, traffic sucks. Have you ever driven in Los Angeles? Or Houston? On the internet though, traffic is all important.
But here’s the thing: Though people often throw traffic-talk around like it’s NBD, online traffic is beyond intimidating and complicated. You may be wondering, “What basics do I need to know about traffic? And if it’s so important, how can I get more of it?”
The number of visitors to a particular website or page make up its traffic. Sites monitor incoming and outgoing traffic to see which parts or pages of their online universe are popular and whether there are any apparent trends — a specific page, ad, or post that’s viewed most often, viewing patterns by time of day or region of the world, etc.
Alexa.com is the most respected and frequently used service for estimating traffic by country and globally, and a site’s Alexa ranking is a big deal. Most large cam networks have very high Alexa rankings. Flirt4Free, for example, currently has a ranking of 630 in the United States and 676 globally. Chaturbate is at 157 U.S. and 190 globally, and XCams ranks 399 in the Netherlands. These numbers show cam sites’ popularity among all the websites on the interwebs, which is a number that’s too big to count.
Let’s take a second to talk about popularity though. Just because cam sites seem wildly popular on Alexa, the traffic they receive is not always due to popularity. Big networks spend hundreds of thousands, even millions, of dollars as often as monthly “buying traffic.” Through many complex and constantly evolving processes and tactics, traffic brokers get paid to get eyeballs on sites. As a model, all this traffic should ultimately translate into work for you.
Note: Buying traffic happens in every industry and on every big website. This is in no way limited to cam, or even to adult entertainment.
But…
There is also a lot of competition on network sites. So even though a site may have massive traffic, there are also a massive number choices for visitors to pick from. This is where another layer of traffic comes in: traffic to your page.
You have your own page — a unique URL that belongs only to you — on every site you cam on. There are ways you can send traffic directly to your pages. One obvious tactic is via social media. On Twitter, for example, let that personality of yours shine through in clever sexy tweets, and every once in a while drop a link to your profile. When people click on the link, that’s traffic.
Here’s a two-part series with tips to build up your Twitter – “I got a Twitter – now what?” Part 1 and Part 2.
Another way to build up traffic to your profile page is via a traffic network — cuz traffic is not just for the big boys to control.
DivaTraffic, for example, is a marketing platform that helps you boost the traffic going directly to your room. This is very different from traffic going to the cam site itself. DivaTraffic taps into the same massive network of adult industry traffic that others purchase, giving you access to a nearly infinite supply of camming customers. When you log on to the cam site, internet magic detects you’re working and DivaTraffic starts directing people to your room. This increases the number of customers in your room and also boosts your rankings within the site itself. Hello, bonuses!
Unlike social media build up, DivaTraffic is not free. But like good tech equipment, costumes and toys, DivaTraffic is a type of self-investment that can pay dividends in the long run.
No matter how you get your traffic, what matters most is how you work it. Half a million followers on Twitter and all the funneled visitors in the world can’t replace you, which ultimately is what the dudes line up for.
DivaTraffic is currently in beta, meaning the company is testing and perfecting its services. That translates into free services for a limited time. Email your name and studio or camming site to support@divatraffic.com to get free tokens/credits for testing purposes.
