Brand protection service provider BranditScan recently announced two new feature updates: a revamp of their mobile experience and a “catfish scanner” to search for Twitter imposter accounts, which is currently in a beta that’s being extended.
The mobile revamp/upgrade enables content creators to “access their protection tools on their phones seamlessly with a mobile-first design,” a rep wrote. Further, the representative explained that it was the “community itself” that inspired the company to make the change.
“We have an incredible community of creators that are so passionate about piracy and share how we should innovate next, the feedback we receive is truly golden,” the company rep stated. “Our community is made up of creators of all sizes and many of them shared their need for a better mobile experience not everyone has access to laptops or desktops. We hit the drawing board and focused on bringing BranditScan to the next level on mobile, making sure our tools are accessible for everyone.”
Even more thrilling (to this writer) than the thrill of a mobile upgrade is the prospect of the Twitter catfish scanner.
BranditScan initially announced the launch of its catfish scanner last summer, noting that the scanner uses brand name searches in combination with facial recognition technology to find “Instagram imposters” and take down the accounts. With the announcement this week, that same technology is now being applied to hunting down impostors on Twitter, as well.
“After launching our Instagram scanner and helping content creators remove these catfish social media accounts, there was real need for this tool over on Twitter as well to start cleaning up those harmful accounts,” a company rep said.
BraditScan’s CEO Gino Sciretta elaborated as to why catfishing on socials is an especially problematic issue.
“Catfish accounts are problematic as they convince fans into believing they are the real thing and can even gain quite a large follower base at times,” Sciretta shared in an interview with YNOT. “They are known to scam money from fans and also share misleading statements and attitudes tarnishing the real creator’s image.”
The BranditScan Insta and Twitter catfish scanner is a part of the company’s $45 Premium Plan, which also includes unlimited stolen content removals, daily scans, catfish takedowns and more. Creators can scan their brand for free by going to BranditScan.com.
