Cam models are lucky — dress up and role-play are pretty much part of daily life — but Halloween is still special. We asked some of the top models at Studio 20 how they felt about costumes. From selecting a costume that flatters your body type to how you should wear any character (hint: with a lot of confidence and a little bit of attitude!), we got some great tips.
Be a Sexy Anything (even a sexy taco!)
These days, you can find a sexy costume version of everything from a corncob to Kenneth Bone. While I personally find some of these allegedly questionable costumes cute — Sexy taco is cute! So is sexy watermelon! — a sexy skunk, lobster, or goldfish seems a little ridiculous.
But therein lies the point: Sexy is in the eye of the beholder, and sexy is how you work it. According to Lynsey Moore, whose favorite Halloween costume is a sexy bunny complete with a little white tail, stockings and high heels are key to sexing up anything. (Louboutins, of course.)
Selena Martinez elaborated on this idea. “Generally speaking, a ‘best’ Halloween costume does not exist. Every person is free to feel comfortable in the kind of outfit that she or he loves,” Martinez explained.
And though her personal taste tends towards costumes that are not aggressive or scary — “I think a girl must keep her feminine side, even when she is wearing a Halloween costume,” she said — women can sex up strong characters that have major impact. A sexy Xena, tigress, lioness, or leopard woman were some of her suggestions.
Customize Your Costume to Flatter Your Body Type
From costumes to swimsuits, advice about flattering your body type abounds. This nothing new, and it only makes sense. We’re all different, so there are different ways to work it!
According to Devious Angel, who’s both petite and curvy, nice costumes for women with a fuller bust and curves are always the ones with a corset. “[A corset] makes your waist look slimmer and also it highlights your curves,” she explained. Rebecca000, who is more athletic-shaped and taller, suggests focusing on height. “For the girls that are more athletic, really concentrate on your legs and face,” she suggested. “Choose an outfit that shows off your legs. Men love to see nice looking legs and a fit body.”
Narrowing or limiting your costume options by your body shape, highlighting your best features and minimizing others, is definitely one good approach. I think a more productive way of looking at it, however, is to customize the way you do your costume. In other words, make your version of whatever costume you choose werk, versus the other way around.
For example, it’s a commonly held belief that women with curves should stay away from baggy costumes that cover up their figure. So, no unicorn onesies or kigurumis. Wrong! Just open the front of that bad boy, revealing a sexy corset or push-up bra. Cuz it’s all in the customization! (You get the idea.)
Plug into Pop Culture
Guess what the No. 1 costume will be for ladies this year? Harley Quinn.
“I think we will see a lot of Suicide Squad this year, especially a sexy version of Harley Quinn,” Alessia Rose speculated.
Arianna Phillips seconded the notion: “Harley Quinn, I think, is the best costume… and easy!”
No kidding: Regardless of how well you liked the movie (or didn’t), Harley Quinn is both sexy and scary, highly intelligent and more than a little batty. She’s a perfect choice, especially if you’re thinking about tapping into your wild, uninhibited side this Halloween.
But Harley Quinn is also a good choice because she’s timely. Last year, your Dr. Quinzel costume would’ve been recognized by fewer people. But today, you have multiple, built-in layers of fantasy to tap into via the exact same character. Pop culture and Hollywood have done a lot of work for us! Though there may be a ton of Harley Quinns out on the town next week, there’s nothing wrong with capitalizing on her strategic embodiment.
From Barbie to bunnies to a sexy vampire-zombie-witch (that’s a lot of characters at once), the most important thing is to make your costume your own. Because really, the ultimate goal is actually… its removal.
