If you’re working online, Halloween is a great time to do a special Trick-or-Treat contest, a pumpkin spice panty raffle or even a Halloween-themed custom video offer. Maybe let fans vote with tokens for the costumes they’d like to see.
A big trend for women this year seems to be strong, kick-ass female characters like Star Wars heroine Rey or any of the galaxy of female superheroes, from Wonder Woman to good ol’ bad girl Harley Quinn.
Costume experts at Party City released a list of some of the hottest trends for 2016:
The Anti-Hero: The Dead Pool’s Harley Quinn is bound to be a big favorite with riot girls, though it might be a good idea to leave the baseball bat at home. Instantly recognizable in her blue-and-red ponytails, satin bomber jacket and knee socks, Harley may be this Halloween’s queen.
Girl Power: DC Comics’ Wonder Woman is awesome. Not only does she slay bad guys, but she does it in a bustier, granny panties, a tiara and boots. So hot. Don’t forget the golden lasso for an extra touch of super power. BTW, this founding member of the Justice League was just named U.N. Honorary Ambassador for Gender Equality.
Election 2016: There’s never been an election like it and there are so many choices. YNOT Cam’s prediction is comic couples dressed as The Donald and Melania. Bill Clinton has had his own rubber mask since the 1990s, but we dare you to find and wear a Hillary pantsuit (another great couple). Want something a little sexier? Play the pageant queen that Trump felt up in the dressing room. Gown, tiara and a sash that proclaims you “Miss Handled” and you’re done. 😉 You could also be a “pussy,” but people are guaranteed to be offended.
Gaming: Pikachu is gonna be popular and there are lot of costume options, including bright yellow hoodies and pretty cosplay party dresses. If you’re a mom wgho’ll be taking a kid or two out on Friday night, it would be adorable for you to be mommy Pikachu and have them be your Pokeballs. #awww
Anime: Of course, you can do the Japanese-style schoolgirl — always a classic and standard for cosplayers anyway. For real anime geeks, pay tribute to Studio Ghilbi color artist Michiyo Yasuda (who recently passed away) for many classic anime features including My Neighbor Totoro. The forest troll King Totoro could be created easily from a plain brown shopping bag, craft store crazy eyes and some colored markers, or check out this super sexy version on Etsy.
Pop Culture: There’s probably going to be a lot of Purple Ones out partying as people pay tribute to Prince, as well as iconic spaceman rocker David Bowie. Beyoncé also may be big. A Rocky Horror Picture Show reboot is on schedule for Halloween, starring OITNB’s LaVerne Cox. That may inspire some gender-bending high-camp queens. Seriously, anyone but Kim Kardashian.
Throwback: Buffy the Vampire Slayer, anything or anybody from the 1990s. With Buffy, you could basically wear street clothes or even an old prom dress, as long as you have some vampire-slaying tool, like a wooden stake or a crossbow. Another cool couples costume? Courtney Love and Kurt Cobain; you can get most everything you need at a thrift store.
DIY: The Beanie Baby onesie is awesome, because you can order the onesie online if you don’t already have a furry costume. Go as a puppy, kitty or farm animal and be totally comfortable. The DIY part is the big, red, heart-shaped TY tag you make and attach to the left ear of your costume. Otherwise, you’re just in pajamas.
Cosplay: The most pinned costume for Halloween 2016 is a sexy winged unicorn girl in furry white bustier, with rainbow-stripe hair and enchanted glittery make-up. So fancy! If you’re a sparkly My Little Pony princess type but want to save the wear-and-tear on your hair, try on this cool wig and, of course, a blinged-out unicorn horn.
Star Wars: Princess Leia or Rey? Old school or new? You can do throwback Star Wars style and be Princess Leia with her double-cinnamon-bun hairdo. A lot of young ladies are going to be dressed as girl action hero Rey. But at the official Star Wars costume site, ladies, you also can be a Jedi, a Sith Lord or a very sexy storm-trooper. Feel the Force within you.
