Premium Snapchat accounts have become yet another way for aspiring cam models to get a feel for the online sex work space. Snapchat is easy to set up and use, so it definitely makes sense why it’s seen as a camming alternative.

What is a Premium Snapchat?
A premium Snapchat is a Snapchat account that is behind a paywall. Snapchat doesn’t offer “premium” accounts in this sense, as the in-app currency Snapcash was removed in late 2018. A model will usually promote their premium Snapchat on other social media platforms and request payment for access to the Snapchat account, often through an online cash application. Payments can be either a one-time thing or a recurring charge until the member cancels.
One can use a premium Snapchat for anything, technically, but the term has become heavily associated with sharing nudes and cam modeling. Using Snapchat this way has become popular because it provides fans with a unique one-on-one interaction with their favorite model that they often can’t get on a cam site.

Snapchat vs Cam Sites: The Key Differences
Snapchat is a social media application. Cam sites, on the other hand, are independent platforms with functions (and rules) that are very different from typical social media sites.
Like Snapchat, cam sites are technically free to use. The sites do, however, usually rev share earnings — for every dollar earned, for instance, the model and the site each get a percentage. This is, after all, how they pay for the platform maintenance, traffic, payment processing, tech and development and every other thing it takes to keep the site up and running..
The rev share dimension could make Snapchat seem like the automatic winner. A cam site replacement where I do not have to share my earnings? Sign me up! Unfortunately, this isn’t really the case because Snapchat is quite finicky when it comes to adult entertainment.
To begin with, adult promotion and content is technically not allowed on the platform. And while many models and content creators often slip through the cracks and can maintain premium Snapchat accounts for months, Snapchat’s banning algorithm is highly unstable. Adult content is often blocked and banned at random. And when it comes to paysites, obviously, adult content is the whole point of the platform. Because of this, we really cannot recommend Snapchat as a “better” alternative to cam sites because cam sites have superior security. Plus, after recent the passage of AB5 in the state of California, many cam models may now be considered employees. For some workers, this situation is considered an improvement over the previous “independent contractor” status that operated throughout the space.
Using Snapchat for Paysite Promos
Adult content isn’t allowed on Snapchat, but you can definitely set up an account to use as a promotional platform. Just be careful about the type of content you choose up upload on the platform– nudity and sex acts could result in a swift ban. You can definitely post clothed images and video content as a “preview,” but be mindful of how much you’re showing.
One strategy is to use the platform to advertise when you’re about to go live on your paysite. Because of the instant story-based nature of Snapchat, your followers will be notified in real-time when you’re about to broadcast. You can’t really get that kind of instant connection with social media platforms like Twitter.

What’s the Conclusion?
The rev share dimension that comes with paysites may seem like a pain to deal with, but paysites offer security that Snapchat simply won’t. You’ll also likely get more audience exposure with a paysite than with a premium Snapchat. But, when it comes down to it, Snapchat was definitely never supposed to be seen as a replacement for cam sites.
In truth, it really shouldn’t be seen as a “one or the other” situation. A premium Snapchat can serve as a decent supplement to your established paysite, as well as a great complementary way to market yourself in the space. You should not rely on Snap as your only for primary outlet though.
Set up your Snapchat and use it to promote your preferred paysite or live stream along with your additional social media marketing! Just don’t rely on the platform for anything more than social media exposure.
