If you use Snapchat to make content for fans, take note. The filter-heavy social media app recently added a new feature that allows users to post 3D content.
Snapchat Goes 3D
According to TechCrunch, Snapchat’s most recent version of Snap’s Spectacles has a 3D feature that allows users “to see the world with immersive filter effects.” And recently, Snapchat “announced a new 3D Camera Mode that will let users make and share images with diorama-like depth effects that move when you tilt your phone.”
It’s also apparently the “latest salvo” — salvo means “a simultaneous discharge of artillery or other guns in a battle” — in the app’s “feature race” with Instagram.
Users who have an iPhoneX and newer iPhone models can try out the 3D Camera Mode now by updating the Snapchat app. The feature is found via the app’s camera mode. Use the drop-down menu on the right to access it. TechCrunch also reported that “pictures can also be viewed (but not created) on older and other phone models (including Android) as well.”
Currently, this 3D feature is not available on Android phones. “Snapchat has had a history with Android,” TechCrunch reported. “While it is a popular platform for mobile apps overall, at one point Snap had to redesign its Snapchat Android app because it was so slow and buggy, leading to plummeting users.”
TechCrunch added that the majority of Snapchat’s users “are on iOS.”
3D Effects
The Snapchat update will give users access to a library of 3D effects, lenses and filters. So, after a user creates an image, they can save it to their camera roll and use the picture on other apps and websites, TechCrunch said.
Photo app users tend to use lenses to “spice up their pictures,” so any new similar feature could prove to be popular and may keep users “on Snapchat overall,” TechCrunch added.
What This Means For You
Any new feature on an app that increases engagement and helps you gain clients and followers is helpful to your brand. In general, this 3D addition gives your fans another way to view you, which is good.
If you don’t have an iPhoneX or newer or you have an Android, however, this addition won’t be of much use to you.
