We’ve all been there: those days when we just don’t feel like getting out of bed in the morning, much less getting out of bed and working. But working is a big part of adulting, so you drag yourself up and get it done.
Camming, as we know, is just like any other job – and sometimes you’re not in the mood to work, much less be sexy and be entertaining for the masses. The pressure to be stimulating when you’re not feeling sexy can be excruciating.
Some days, “it’s hard,” Corii Siren explained. “You get distracted, you might not want to show off, you might not be as entertaining or even want to be as entertaining. You don’t want to be there.”
There are endless reasons why some days may feel less sexy than others. How can you combat the work blahs, up your game and get the job done? We’ve got a few ideas.
Shake Off Those Cobwebs
Having a pimple, your period, insomnia, a headache — any of these things can blur your day and make it challenging to feel sexy. These types of things are all part of the human experience though, so eventually they will come up. Be it for work or for any number of other reasons, laying low while these circumstances run their own course is not always an option. Sometimes you have take measures to conquer these types of roadblocks, always making sure to take care of yourself at the same time. Taking care of yourself is, in fact, essential.
“I find that taking the time to take care of yourself and your appearance in a way that makes you feel confident and put together can help. Honestly, it’s more for you than them. In my experience, clients are not that critical of our appearance,” Sammy Rei Schwarz shared.
Sometimes shaking off the cobwebs takes a little extra stimulation. To get yourself a bit more hyped up, try a little something fun – play whatever music is your own personal fight song, make yourself an invigorating herbal tea, do a series of Tabata-timed interval exercises. Erotic writer Wednesday Noir suggested “pre-show masturbating… but don’t orgasm — just something to tease yourself.”
Whatever works for you, do it!
Don’t Fight with the Boss, Be the Boss
You are the boss here, and you definitely cannot afford to fight with yourself. Or, you can – but why would you?
As a cam model, you set up your own agenda. You know what you want to achieve for the future and what the plan is to meet those goals. Being the boss comes with a lot of great perks, but there are also days when being the boss might suck. When you are the only one monitoring your behavior and you’re not in the mood to crack the whip, it can be a challenge to inspire yourself like you would expect an external boss to do. Treat yourself honestly and critically. Do not forget your bottom line and have respect for your talents and capabilities.
“Just remind yourself that you’re your own worst critic. The clients that complain and criticize every little detail are usually not the ones that actually pay you and are good to work with,” Schwarz suggested.
Break the Routine
Sometimes, routines get routine – and that might not be very sexy to you. So, change it up! Try something new. Or, try something you’ve never done before that you’ve always wanted to do. Even better, try something you’ve never done before that you’ve always wanted to do and one of your clients has hinted at wanting.
Changing up your routine by pursuing a new cosplay character, a different type of content or even another time of day to broadcast can help get your juices flowing. Further, doing something different – even the smallest thing – may introduce new people, new feedback and new energy into your cam room, which can have a positive impact.
“Even if you don’t think something is sexy, someone does. And you want to be out there to find that someone, which means you have to be online!” Siren said.
Schwarz seconded that sentiment and said, “It can be an ego boost and nice reality check when I don ‘t feel sexy — maybe I had a bad day or haven’t had time to care for my appearance — and a client treats me like the sexiest woman alive.”
Being complacent and hanging out in a routine that’s gone stale is a surefire way to make yourself uninspired, so don’t forget to raise the bar — and keep raising it.
Call Yourself In Sick
Regardless of all this fussing and attempted amping up, the bottom line is that you have to take care of yourself. If you need to take a day off for self care, then take it.
Siren explained, “Sometimes, it is best to just stay off. Take a self-care night and do what you need to do to feel sexy again, even if it’s just a little bit! But if, you know, you want to push for it, you might need to have a ‘fake it ‘til you make it’ attitude and switch up your show a little bit.”
It is important to consider the source of doldrums, boredom and uninspired feelings and take inventory for yourself. If you are in a rut, take steps to shake things up. If you sick or are experiencing more serious issues, seeking outside help is essential, both for your work/life balance and for your wellness overall.
Editor’s note: This is not *my* fight song, but it is literally someone else’s — good stuff, get pumped!
