Social media is a key part of any online personality or brand. It is important that you use it responsibly, as you want to be sure to generate traffic and get a return on your investments. Abusing your reach with irresponsible social media behavior can hurt your business, as well as damage your reputation.
Here are some tips to keep your “persona” social media professional and get the most out of each platform and post.
Getting Started
Social media is a powerful tool to leverage when establishing a professional identity, building an image and standing out in your chosen industry.
The first key point of monetizing professional social media accounts are the first things any reader, viewer or fan may see: the avatar, header and profile bio. Having clean, eye-catching photos is a great way to get new followers. Although professional graphics are not necessary, it is recommended to make customized headers and images for your social media accounts, as well as having a complete bio.
Even in sex work, it is important these images are safe for work for a variety of reasons — you want to entice followers and engagement, not give away all your content for free. Another concern: copycats and fake profiles. Make sure that your branding, bio and header reflect that you are you.
Define Your Area of Expertise — and Mark it NSFW
Figure out your focus, and pursue it. By doing this, you let anyone interested in following you know exactly what to expect from you and your profile early on. NSFW tags (in whatever form) are a great way to let people who do not want to see adult content know they should not be following you. It also lets parents and caregivers know to block you from their minor’s profiles. This also lets a potential customer know they are in the right place.
Build a Content Calendar
Just like a corporate branding strategy, your personal branding on social media should encompass a consistent content strategy. If your goal is to drive traffic to your site, you should focus on developing quality content that you want people to read and share from time to time.
Once you have set up your page and profile, the next step is following similar accounts to your own. Be they model peers, companies you work for or with, fans or just people who share similar interests, you definitely want to friend and follow like-minded accounts.
Join Niche Groups
Find and join groups relevant to your area of expertise. These groups help increase your knowledge, develop new ideas, test your skills and build confidence. They give you an opportunity to expand your network and build relationships with like-minded individuals. This is an essential stepping stone in building your personal brand. This also leads to potential customers looking for the type of content you sell or are interested in services such as private cam shows, sexting or other income generating products.
Read the TOS
If you want to keep the profiles you worked so hard to build followings on, you will need to not only follow the TOS (terms of service), you will need to know them. You will need to understand what is allowed and what is not.
Facebook, Instagram and YouTube are the strictest (and most arbitrary) as far as adult content is concerned, so be mindful when posting. Find ways to work carefully so that you don’t lose your profile to careless posts or accidental slip ups.
Stay Positive
It is very easy to get sucked into online drama, political conversations, religious posts and other highly sensitive topics. These sorts of topics can disconnect you from your friends, as well as your viewers and fans.
Remember: Your objective for your social media is to engage, interact and create an interest in your persona, services and new projects. As much as it may be tempting to battle it out over rude comment or respond to a tagged post that attacks you, this type of social interaction rarely leads to generating income — much less a positive communication exchange.
Stimulate the Senses
Use images, GIFs and short videos to stimulate your followers. These types of posts will create retweets, shares and increase your visibility on social media. Remember to keep them sexy-but-PG. The idea is to entice interest — not give your content away — and include links to your sites where more risqué content is not a TOS violation.
Post Frequently
Your post frequency is just as important as your followers. Staying an “engaging” persona keeps followers coming to your page, which leads them to your links and eventually to your sites. The first interaction will not likely lead to clicks, but several tweets of interesting conversation that hook your viewers into wanting to see more of you can lead to clicks that convert to sales in many cases.
Don’t OVER Advertise
This one is easier said than done! When you are eager to make money, it’s easy to drift into spam territory by constantly advertising. Be mindful that having a regular tweet every so often helps show your human side and may entice your followers into having a normal conversation with you.
It may seem basic — because it is — but remember the people who buy your content are usually looking for the basics. Whether it’s a lonely guy sitting at home interested in gaming or a married man needing an intelligent conversation about a subject his partner doesn’t know about, connection in they manner can be the difference between a follower and a paid subscriber.
A good way to do this is to capitalize on the topics you have an interest in. If you are into sports, gaming, cooking, dieting, exercise, anime, knitting, swimming with sharks — you get my drift — talk about it! Even ask questions to gain insight and hear experiences from your followers. A great way to get to know your peers and fans is to ask questions that give them an opportunity to share their experiences and intimate details about themselves.
Social media is for engagement, so you cannot promote your business all the time. To build a reputation, your personal brand should offer you more as an individual counting on your experiences, knowledge and skills.
Update Your Profile Links Regularly
It is very important that you have the most current information on all of your social networks and website links. This improves your rankings and the relevancy of your brand. It also helps to drive more traffic to your networks.
Be Active and Responsive on All Your Social Media Channels
Engaging with your audience through questions, discussions, comments, replies, etc can do wonders for your brand. This can help you build a strong relationship with your audience, ensuring the loyalty of your followers.
Overall, it is up to you to determine what your specific branding strategy is with your social media. Utilize the free tools available to you to ensure you are successfully and responsibly interacting and engaging with social media to produce the results you desire.
Good luck!
