If one could just concentrate on performing and do well as a cammer, life would be so much simpler, wouldn’t it?
It would, but that’s a pipe dream!
Any successful model knows that promoting and networking are the real bread and butter of creating a career that grows and lasts. If you hate doing those things hopefully you’ve learned to love them or at least tricked yourself into loving them because marketing and promotion is the key to making your business bloom.
If you’re still struggling to commit to these chores, one thing that can take the edge off is having the right tools – starting with earphones.
If you’re working with a janky pair or none at all and are forced to hold your cell up to your head all the time resulting in your neck feeling like it needs to be chopped off at the end of the day, it’s time for you to rethink your setup when you’re having conversations that are needed to promote your career.
Whether it’s an over-the-phone interview that you’re doing for a publication, discussing new content creation with someone you’ve partnered with, making schedule plans for events you’d like to attend or dealing with annoying office work, you can’t get around the fact that being on the phone is a big part of your job.
Therefore, it’s important to be comfortable and have the right earphones for your ears, and it’s not one size fits all.
I for example like headphones over earphones. This is because I have small eardrums and even though I have a pair of Apple Airpods, I’m frustrated by them because I’m constantly losing one out of the ear. And yes, I’ve even bought the smallest tips to go on them and still one always falls out – annoying! I also tend not to like putting things in my ear so I’ve taken to Beats by Dr. Dre headphones which come in at $199 a pop. If you’re in the same boat but want something cheaper, try the Soundcore Anker Life Q20 Wireless which was rated as best cheap headphone by RTINGS.com coming in at $39.98 on Amazon as of this writing.
If you’re more into cordless earphones because you don’t have eardrums the size of a small child like me, Airpods are a great choice. They have terrific sound and noise cancelling. The downside is they’re pricey coming in at $249 unless you get one of the older generations. If this is too rich for your blood, 1 More Piston Buds are a good alternative. They’re currently $24.99 on Amazon at the time of this writing. I will say I’ve tried them, and they work well, but they’re definitely not comparable to Apple’s Airpods. 1 More has other brands you may want to try in the middle price range as well that may be better.
A last suggestion I have are the Mackie CR Series Dual-Driver corded earphones for $22.85. A lot of professional voiceover artists use these, and I’ve tried them as well. The nice thing about Mackie’s are they come with a lot of different ear tips and two ear tip styles so you can find what’s most comfortable for you. Read the directions carefully because they have great insight on how to properly seat them in your ear for best results.
