Charisma.
It’s hard to explain what it is but you know it when you see it.
Someone who has charisma exudes confidence, passion, and above all light – literally LIGHT.
It’s like they have an invisible beam coming out of their chest that attracts people to them – this is regardless of whether they’re a good or bad person. Think of Hitler, Mussolini, and Ted Bundy… without charisma they’d never have been able to accomplish the horrible things they did. Charisma isn’t picky – anyone can possess it.
Charisma also has nothing to do with looks.
The world is filled with gorgeous individuals whose beauty wanes after the first glance… and then there are those amazing creatures like Stephen Hawking, Freddy Mercury, and Charles Bukowski. They’re not great beauties but they ooze charisma and have an army of devotees.
In short, charisma is power and those who possess it are able to influence and inspire others.
Now that’s a trait you want as a cammer because it can help you build a strong fan base. It’s not a replacement for hard work, being good at what you do, and having great business sense… but add charisma to the mix and you’ll be unstoppable and stand out from the masses.
So how do you develop the magic of charisma if it doesn’t come naturally?
Build your Confidence – Own your thoughts, say them proudly, and stick to them. That doesn’t mean you should be unbending in your opinions, on the contrary. Someone who is truly confident can admit when they’re wrong – that makes them even more charismatic because it requires courage.
Share your Passion – Know this is your time, your place, and your calling. Always look for the joy in what you do, demand it of your performances and you’ll find viewers will be attracted to you and your work. Energy and happiness create light – and everyone wants a piece of light.
Care about Others – Most people who are charismatic are able to make others feel important. Make eye contact, ask questions, listen, connect, and engage on an authentic level. This goes for how you deal with fans not just in the room, but with direct messages and on social media.
Embrace Vulnerability – Practice being your unique self – which isn’t always easy. Everyone loves to wear masks in life so when you remove this veil and stand naked in all the glory that is you, it’s such an incredible breath of fresh air that people can’t help but be attracted to you – that’s charisma. Of course, you have to learn to protect yourself and know what and when to share, but even in those times, you can still be vulnerable and real.
Charisma is a skill. Some are lucky to be naturally gifted with it, but it can be learned. So, if you don’t possess it, don’t fret. Take time to develop it and watch what happens!
