With the trainwreck that continues to be Elon Musk’s Twitter, more and more companies are coming in for the kill in hopes to nab users that are looking to flee the troubled app.
Most recently I wrote about Bluesky Social – the up and comer that looks a lot like Twitter but has one huge shortcoming – it’s nearly impossible to get an account.
Still in beta, the site which boasts celebrity users like Chrissy Teigen, James Gunn, and Edgar Wright, isn’t really made for mortals such as us. According to Vox, currently 1.2 million people are on the waitlist, and no one quite knows how to get accepted. So basically, Bluesky has a lot of hype without much bite. That could change but for now, it’s not really on the radar.
I then discussed YNOT’s Mastadon server which is a great alternative to Twitter and Bluesky.
Anyone can easily get an account (sign up here), and cammers can feel confident they’ll never be shadow banned or lose their profile.
Now entering the boxing ring is none other than Meta. If you can get past the annoyance of supporting another Zuckerberg platform (does he really need any more money?), his new baby could also be a player you may be interested in. As reported by Bloomberg it should be ready to launch this summer.
Right now, there’s a lot of rumors about Meta’s Twitter clone, but who doesn’t like some good gossip?
According to CNBC, Meta’s new platform is rumored to have a codename of P92 and will be called “Threads.” It will be a decentralized text-based social network like Bluesky and Mastadon but will have the benefit of being integrated with Instagram and Facebook – making it super easy for people to join up and use. It’s doubtful Meta’s contender will be able to get the traction needed to send Twitter its walking papers, but it’s sure to be a threat as CNBC discussed:
“Meta enjoys a significant advantage over upstart competitors like BlueSky or Mastodon, given how many users are already integrated into Facebook and Instagram. It also enjoys longstanding relationships with brands and advertisers which could provide revenue at launch.”
CNBC also shared that Meta hasn’t forgotten the appeal of the influencer, and like Bluesky they’re courting heavyweights for the launch like Oprah and the Dalai Lama to give it some cachet. It’s going to be an interesting ride to see who comes out on top!
Stay tuned for the launch of Meta’s “Threads” and look for more updates on other companies throwing their hat in the ring to get a piece of the Twitter pie.

[…] I recently covered the up-and-coming Twitter-like platform called Threads. At the time of writing, Internet rumors hypothesized how the new challenger would be different/the same as Twitter and how competitive it would be. In mid-May, heavyweight news outlet, Bloomberg vaguely reported Threads would be launching “sometime this summer” giving us a possible timeframe for when all our questions would be answered about the newcomer.
