Are you a fan of tarot?
If so you need to check out the deck known as the “Vibrating Tarot.”
No, it’s not going to lift off from your bed and float like a disembodied spirit during a cam show, but it’s going to do the next best thing.
Featuring the artwork of over 300 globally renowned sex pleasure products from over 100 different manufacturers and indie creators along with a guidebook to tell you what card means what it’s going to take fortune telling to a whole new “vibrational” level.
“Vibrating Tarot is a fun and innovative way to showcase the link between pleasure and presence, and we’re excited to see the Magic Wand featured so prominently,” said Ken Herskovitz, CEO of Vibratex.
If ever there was a tarot deck that a cammer should own, this is it.
Created by Frank Lawrence, independent artist, typographer, and owner of Pallor Publishing graphic design consultancy, the Vibrating Tarot deck was designed to honor sex-positivity, LGBTQ+ visibility, and the BDSM/kink world. With topnotch typography and vivid illustrations, the Vibrating Tarot is cool AF, but even cooler – the deck isn’t just for show – it does its job.
Each of the 90 cards embrace classic tarot archetypes that are based on Pamela Colman Smith’s original Tarot illustrations. If you haven’t heard of her, guaranteed you’ve seen her handiwork. Colman Smith, a British babe whose adorable press photo from the 1800s has her looking every bit the stereotypical fortune teller, is the creator of the classic Rider-Waite (RW) tarot deck. Her iconic symbolism has been featured in everything from mainstream entertainment, literature, and advertisements to its home of the occult.
The spark of the idea – literally – to create the Vibrating Deck came to Lawrence after his apartment building burned down. Deciding to make his own tarot cards based on pleasure products, his first step was to insure he could legally pattern them on Coleman’s concepts. After getting the green light from US Games (the printer of the RW deck) he went on a campaign to secure dozens of pleasure product companies, large and small from all over the globe to create the most diverse deck he could while also keeping the integrity of the work intact:
“I never wanted it to just be some joke or novelty item, or for it to amount to a series of web art or some elaborate meme. I believe it can be a worthwhile product in the pleasure product and metaphysical marketplaces and I’ve always approached its artwork, its message, and the rhetoric surrounding it with respect and dignity.”
For the past three years, the Vibrating Deck has been coming together. As of March 2023, though still in pre-production, most of the artwork is done. A campaign through BackerKit is expected to be launched in May 2024 where you’ll be able to score a first edition deck by supporting the project.
In addition to the Vibrating Deck and guidebook, Lawrence also shared that there will be a coloring book, a free (for non-commercial use) pleasure themed font, fundraising for charitable donations through silent auctions of original artwork, and lists of resources like sex educators, product reviewers, and help/crisis lines.
