I love finding out what successful performers did before they entered the industry.
So many different stories and paths!
For some it was their first choice and they simply delved right into it, for others they stumbled on it by some strange series of events. And still others had really strong careers prior to this and just got sick of it or were planning on taking a different path when the bug bit.
Jessica Starling falls into the last category. Originally studying to be a journalist she realized how much more she liked sex work and left the writing behind. Trust me journalism is not for the weak of heart I can’t blame her! It was obvious to me however when I got her answers that she could’ve been a great one, everything she sent was so well-written – I barely edited them!
And this is why I enjoy highlighting stories like Jessica’s.
They give the proverbial middle finger to the prevalent mainstream belief that sex workers are stupid and can’t do anything else. Jessica could’ve probably done anything she set her mind to… but she chose this path because she enjoyed it, and it shows in her work. Learn more about Jessica below!
How did you get your start, and what brought you to the industry?
I got my start in the sex industry at 18 as a stripper. After dancing for two years, I took a year’s break from sex work. Then, I started camming while attending college. After my first semester of journalism school, I decided that I enjoyed camming much more, so I dropped out of school and started camming full-time. From there, I started making my own videos, working with studios, and now we’re here!
Tell us about your stint Camming Life’s show AI vs. Porn – what do you think about ChatGPT and all this AI technology?
I believe AI will prove a useful tool in creating scripts for videos and other forms of erotic media, as well as sexting.
As to the belief that AI may “take over” the adult industry, I find that improbable. The thing that people come to me the most for is genuine connection, companionship, and intimacy, all things which I believe AI is incapable of replicating.
What do you think is the secret to cultivating fans who love and support your work?
I can narrow it down to three things: finding a content niche that you enjoy, doing market research for the audience of that particular niche, and then making and consistently releasing the content of that niche with your research in mind.
Simple formula, but it definitely works and keeps my fans happy.
What do you think is the most important thing a cam model needs to have a successful career?
Consistency is one of the most important things in a cam model’s career.
Consistency means being online at the same times every week for at least a few hours is critical to your success, especially at the beginning of your career. And once you’re established, your fans will know how and when to find you easily.
What goals do you have for 2023?
I simply desire to continue to compete with myself to create better and more creative, unique erotic media, as well as prioritize the representation of diversity in the content I make with other creators. I’m excited about the rest of the year and all the scene work and projects that are coming up.
