Ideally, to get the most traction on the Internet you’ll want to be on as many social media platforms or sites as possible… yet, realistically there’s only so many hours in the day, so you have to choose which will be the best for your career.
Recently Visual Capitalist did a breakdown of the most visited websites in the world.
This handy report is helpful in strategizing which sites you should be focusing on based on how many eyeballs they draw. Of course, there’s something to be said about getting the lion’s share of views on a smaller platform – being a big fish in a small pond can garner success, but it stands to reason that a site that gets a lot of traffic may be an important addition to your marketing.
What I found most interesting about Visual Capitalist’s rankings (which drew data from Similar Web), is that some of the sites I thought were huge players, were not as big as others that I thought were smaller.
Coming up behind Google (the number one visited site in the world (85.1B visits per month) is YouTube (33B visits per month).
I would’ve thought it would be TikTok with all its buzz. But guess what, TikTok isn’t even in the top 10! It comes in at #18 (1.8B monthly visits). Even weirder, Snapchat isn’t even on the radar, who knows where it lands as Visual Capitalist only reported on the top 50.
Taking this data into account, it makes sense that if you have to decide between TikTok and YouTube because you don’t have enough time to do both, it may be wiser to lean into the power of YouTube as there’s just more people to look at your work.
Coming in at number 3, is Facebook (17.8 billion monthly visits).
I know that Facebook isn’t the friendliest to the adult industry, but if you can figure out a way to create content that teases the audience without raising warning flags and getting you kicked off, it could be highly beneficial to your marketing. Twitter and Instagram came in at #4 (6.8B monthly visitors) and #5 (6.1B monthly visitors), respectively – which confirms that of course you want to be on those platforms.
Additionally, Visual Capitalist also reported on four adult sites that have the highest traffic in the world – xVideos came in at #11 (2.8B monthly visitors), Pornhub at #13 (2.5B visitors), xnxx.com comes in at #14 (2.3B monthly visitors), and xHamster at #26 (1.3B monthly visitors). This should give you a little impetus to get on those platforms if you’re not already.
What’s most important however, about any site you decide to be on, is that you create quality content that uses the strength of the platform to capture the viewers they do have. Better to be on fewer and do them well, than be on a ton and do them all poorly – results are a reflection of your efforts.
