Anyone tired of social media feeds with retouched, filtered, and cherry-picked photos?
It appears fake perfection is really getting on people’s nerves which is why a new social media app called BeReal is picking up steam. This year alone the authenticity platform was downloaded 3.2 million times.
The question is…
Is BeReal real enough to allow the adult industry to use it uncensored?
According to BeReal’s terms, “promotion of sexual content” is a no no. Looks like BeReal is kinda… unreal. It’s not a complete wash though. The new app could be a unique way for models to deliver PC content to fans as an extra add on. Getting to see you at your most natural may be something clients really enjoy. If that appeals to you, read on.
Here’s how it works:
First off, you can’t just post any old time of day. You have to wait until BeReal says you can, so I refer to it as the dominatrix of social media sites. Once a day, BeReal will send you a notification when you can post. Here’s the clincher, you’ve got to do it in two minutes. Try not to let your anxiety kick in.
So, what’s the big deal if you miss your chance? Well for one, BeReal squeals on you with push notifications informing your followers you’ve posted “late” when you finally do upload a pic. For two, you can’t look at anyone else’s content until you do – so forget lurking. This begs the question, why would anyone want to BeReal? It sounds soooo stressful and controlling. But, hey, this fake stuff is out of hand and desperate times call for desperate measures.
Why not just plan for when you get the BeReal notification?
Nice try, you can’t, it’s random.
That means you could be sitting on the toilet when BeReal tells you it’s your lucky two minutes to shine. There’s no uploading a pre-shot pic to the platform either, you’ve got to use the camera. To really kill the fun, all filters and cropping are strictly forbidden and make sure you get the angle right. You’re not going to be able to chop off your arm if it looks fat (anyone else have the fat upper arm syndrome?).
At least BeReal is kind enough to allow you to remove one piece of content a day if it really sucks anything more than that you’ve got to email support. But you should look on the bright side. All these challenges mean you’ll train yourself to take perfect selfies – an important skill that you need to survive.
What do you think about the new app? Mashable reported that everyone they talked to loves it because it forces people to be authentic. Weigh in. Do you think they’re just gluttons for punishment?
