In a new development, reports are suggesting that social media platform Twitter may be adopting a new premium subscription scheme to offer users a set of new features currently in development.
Following the trend of premium subscription models on other platforms, Twitter is reportedly considering a premium plan at $2.99 per month so that users can access a conceptual undo tweet feature and potentially some remove-ad features.
The Verge reported that Twitter has previously confirmed a paid subscription for some features. A prominent app researcher, Jane Manchun Wong, recently tweeted that she discovered this feature and what it will be called.
Wong said that the service will be referred to as Twitter Blue and will include an “Undo Tweets” feature and a bookmarking collection feature. Wong also noted that Tony Haile, the former chief executive officer of Scroll, is now on the product team at Twitter. That, in itself, would suggest that so-called premium offerings Twitter has yet to release would be an ad-free experience. Scroll was recently absorbed into Twitter’s ecosystem after Jack Dorsey, and the company approved the acquisition earlier this year.
What does “Twitter Blue” mean for you?
How this potential product framework would change the nature of Twitter isn’t yet known, and online sex workers and members of the adult community must certainly approach this news with caution.
For adult entertainers who rely on Twitter to engage with their followers and distribute their content, the premium features need to be observed closely. Twitter recently announced the successful launch of the Tip Jar feature, which permits users to tip their favorite tweeters for their content and posts. That feature, unfortunately, only integrates with payment processing platforms that have a bias against prurient and sexual content.
The point to consider is that the premium features, while potentially improving user experience, could further complicate the existing challenges models and performers already face on mainstream social media platforms. Twitter, as a company, has yet to confirm the development of premium features.
Luckily, Wong has a reputation for being on target with her predictions about new apps.
