Here we all are, in Quarantine Week #ICantEvenCount. Everyone has definitely had to do some major life adjusting over the past few weeks. One of the biggest changes is our social experiences and entertainment adventures.
Even if you think of yourself as a relative homebody, chances are after this much time you’ve noticed a difference in your entertainment routine. For people with more “conventional” social activities, this is obvious. But for some, a simple outing to the grocery store was their entertainment — and that’s been altered.
Another common, but commonly overlooked “social” entertainment experience is a trip to the movie theater. Regardless of how much time you already spend in front of a small screen and regardless of what you may think of Hollywood’s efforts these days, the act of going to the movies is an experience in of itself for many.
Unfortunately, on par with so many other happenings due to COVID-19, theaters are currently closed, forcing major productions to postpone their box office hits or release them to the internet and DVD early.
Why Love the Theater?
The theater experience is one you can’t compare. The sounds of the theater can provide a realistic like experience that draws you in, making you feel like you are right there inside of the action on the screen. From comfortable seats, surround sound and a huge screen to the food and snacks, going to the movies is an actual full-on adventure.
2020 was set to be the biggest box office year in history, with 25+ highly anticipated, high revenue generating releases ready to rev up movie fans around the world. COVID-19 surely put that on hold! But before we lose faith and hope, there are actually some great reasons to move your theater experiences to your own home.
10 Reason to Love Your At-Home Theater
1. No travel costs, parking or crowded theaters.
I think this speaks for itself with no further explanation.
2. Seating can be an issue when you go during high traffic viewing times and are forced to sit front row or you are a big girl like me and have a hard time fitting into seats no matter where they are. The discomfort can dramatically change from fun and adventurous to a countdown to get out!
3. Clothing optional dress code.
As an exhibitionist, I love being naked. For obvious reasons, I can’t attend a movie in a public theater naked. An amazing perk to viewing movies from home means I can be comfortable in my birthday suit anywhere I want!
4. No need to sneak in food, drinks or snacks and you can drink alcohol if you so choose.
I am a cheapskate and always hit Dollar Tree for candy and snacks to save a dime when going to the movies. When you are home, you can have a full meal while you watch a movie and not have to worry about being busted for sneaking in your treats! Plus, it’s much easier to eat in your own home than in a theater where there is nowhere to put your food.
5. You can pause the movie if you need to go to the bathroom or take a phone call, and you can rewind when you miss something important. I always have to use the ladies’ room halfway through a movie — it’s like clockwork — and I always seem to miss the good parts and then ask my date what I missed.
Of course, this annoys our theater neighbors and is considered highly rude to carry on a conversation while mid-movie.
6. Texting, using your phone is allowed (another self explanatory point)
7. No annoying teenagers talking, laughing, throwing popcorn or being obnoxious during the film.
When you go to the movies, you are chancing that someone lets their kids see a movie without mature adult supervision. When that happens — and it does more than it should — teens are going to be teens and show off by being mischievous.
Staying at home avoids this… unless your kids are those teens!
Come over to my house!
8. Sex is legal at home.
For the adventurous exhibitionists out there, when you visit the theater and feel compelled to engage in public sex, you are risking exposing yourself to minors and/or being arrested. he great thing about being in the comfort of your own home? Neither of those situations are present. Go for it and make your date night fun by pretending you are sneaking a quickie in the movie theater!
9. Save money! By having the at-home theater experience, you ultimately save money. The average cost of two people going to a movie is $40. You spend half of that by staying home.
10. Last but certainly not least, you can rewatch the movie if you fall asleep.
Everyone has fallen asleep at a movie at least once. Well, most everyone. I am usually on the go 24/7, so when I actually sit still at the theater, my body views this as the time to get some much needed rest. Therefore, I miss important parts of the movie by snoring right through the scenes.
Watching from home gives me the privilege to watch it as many times as I need until I either stay up through the entire film or catch the parts I previously missed.
We are definitely being forced to appreciate privileges in our lives that have been paused and revoked due to the current situation. Rather than find all the reasons it sucks that you aren’t able to do something, find the positives. Enjoy your at home theater adventures that await you!
