Hello, my name is Katya Tiuni. I am CEO and general manager of Model’s Guide. It is the first online school for Russian speaking models and studios. We provide quality training and promote cam modelling as a prestige profession. My experience in cam industry started more than fourteen years ago as a model, then studio owner and head trainer in my studios.
A model is a small company that consists of one person. If the model takes her company seriously, then your brand, marketing and self-development are the three “pillars” on which it rests. Let’s talk about one thing at a time.
Your Brand
A brand is what’s associated with a model, what customers think about her. One cannot feel it, put it on a shelf or use it as a birthday gift. For a successful model brand, it is important to create three things:
1. Your online personality
2. Your story
3. Your show (your product)
The most important thing is to build the foundation of the brand — the personality. These are a model’s values, world view, experience, skills, abilities, talents, character, relationships with people around and behavior. The rest of the attributes are based on it — nickname, your story or legend, rating, behavior, gestures, body language, colors, clothes, makeup, hairstyle and so on. Free and paid content also depends on this: photos, videos, text, video chats, personal shows.
Free content should 100% reveal your niche and positioning. Members should understand what to expect from the model in private chat before inviting him to go private and even before he speaks to her in a live free chat. Your main goal as a brand is to form a vision and association with your image and product in the mind of the final consumer before they buy it. You can do this by creating correct content.
Each model is a brand, but not every brand becomes successful. It is very important to stand out among thousands of other models and to emphasize your authenticity. Therefore, you will have to work hard on the brand, attract a professional stylist and designer.
Marketing
The second “pillar” of the model is marketing. A well-designed brand is the “packaging” of your content, but it’s still important to be able to sell this exclusive product and make the customer fall in love with it. That is marketing’s business. If the created brand is left to chance, one can hardly expect a high demand for it, recognition and customer loyalty.
So, marketing is a set of actions that promote your product or service. It includes market research, advertising and promotion. With proper marketing, the model becomes famous, creates high-quality shows, photos and video materials that the viewer loves and which sell like hotcakes. She has a line of customers and is scheduled for several weeks ahead. She knows exactly what new products will come out and when, and she follows up on the trends and implements them, adapting to her brand.
Self-Development
The third “pillar” is self-development. It is divided into three components.
1. Physical development
Business requires discipline and constancy just as much as a sport does. I do sports every day: lift weights, dance, stretch and just exercise in the morning when there is little time. In just six months, I’ve done a full split and pumped up muscles, and it makes my shows special. I use certain elements in combination with others.
“Go in for sports!” is not just a brand phrase. The most successful people in the world go in for sports, monitor their diet and regularly check in with dietologists.
Physical development is also a self care, beauty procedures, buying nice clothes, makeup and all kind of body improvements.
2. Emotional development or emotional intelligence (EQ)
This is work with emotions, yours and other people’s, the ability to capture and recognize them. Boosting emotional intelligence and developing empathy is now becoming more important than being the most intelligent, but unemotional.
The most valuable human qualities at all times and in all cultures are considered to be kindness and tenderness. In general, life without emotions is just as impossible as without feelings. It is nice to see a happy, smiling, sociable person, and to be like that you need to understand the main communication problems that you might have, pay more attention to the ability to communicate, understand the feelings of other people, sympathize them, adequately respond in difficult situations, find a way out of the conflict, which means learning to manage your behavior and emotions and correctly express them.
3. Intellectual development
Here I include everything related to new knowledge and skills, the development of leadership qualities, as well as the way of thinking. Business needs entrepreneurial thinking and must be developed. For example, to study branding and marketing, find your motivation and goals, constantly improve. There must be a vision and perspective in which things are even better than today. This is what makes the model get up earlier than others in the morning and realize her project.
As I mentioned, a model is a company that consists of one person, so knowledge of the law, tax code and legal expertise will come in handy. You need to be able to predict business and risks, to know the psychology of behavior. It is necessary to study financial literacy, do bookkeeping or delegate it. If you work with people and assemble a team or organize a studio, then you need skills of working with people (management, motivation, control).
Branding, marketing and self-development are the foundation on which a successful model’s business is built. Ideally, it all should work as a single organism. And if a model delegates something to specialists, she should be able to choose a person who will be suitable for a particular task.
By the way, it’s a rather expensive thing to do, so get ready to invest in the beginning. I think you need about $ 10,000 to get a good start. But you can start with what you have and invest your income gradually in training, equipment, photo shoots, brand and marketing. Another option is to join successful studio, so you can start right away without investment.
In general, if a cam modeling is a business for your personally and not a hobby, then you need to develop it according to the rules of the business, constantly updating it. Only then it will please its creator with its ever-increasing profits for a long time.
I hope after reading this article, you treat you modeling more as business. This is how we approach cam work when we train our models and studios. We teach them to create successful brands and develop their persona, as it is main thing on a live cam market.
Thank you for reading. Myself and Model’s Guide team wish you success and highest earnings!
