Hair and makeup can feel like a hapless struggle between three, often at-odds forces: external forces, like new looks and new products and new discoveries; fact forces, namely the actual shape of your face and your head and so on; and practical forces, meaning what you need and are willing to do for work, as well as for your daily life.
You could also add into the mix money factors that come with trying out anything beauty-related, as well as the time/Time Vortex that is inevitable when practicing… and shopping.
But what if you could try out any and all hair and makeup looks without the same cost, time and skin damage (if you think trying to perfect some form of contouring for an hour, which may or may not even be a good look for you, doesn’t have some impact on your skin… well, I disagree) that comes with conventional methods?
Enabling you to do exactly that is the purpose of YouCam Perfect, the artificial intelligence (AI) and augmented reality (AR) app from Perfect Corp – and Perfect says that the upgraded technology the company is poised to show off at the upcoming 2020 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) is better than ever.
Perfect Technologies: AI Face Attributes, AI Beauty Advisor
At CES, Perfect will be giving demos of a selection of AI/AR beauty apps that cover makeup, skincare and hair, as well as the company’s “AI Face Attributes” and “AI Beauty Advisor” technologies. And while it’s always dicey to take a company’s marketing as the Gospel, if all this tech even halfway lives up to what the company promises, the demos at CES should be amazing.
Take the AI Hair technology, for example. According to Perfect, their virtual hair color effects have now “expanded beyond the basic single process shade to incorporate a mix of gradient, shine, and color effects that range from ombre, to duo-chrome, and metallic shading.”
Basically, in real-time, you can try a variety of different colors and as you do, the technology “instantly recognizes the unique movement of hair to display wildly accurate digital hair color effects.”
As cool as that sounds, it’s nothing compared to the AI Beauty Advisor, which harnesses the power of AI deep learning capabilities to “provide personalized beauty recommendations based on individual preferences (including facial attributes skin tone and hair color), directing consumers to a product list tailored specifically to them.” How much effort would that save you?
All this is not to mention time saved that might otherwise be spent at Sephora or the MAC counter or online or trying to get to Lemonhead‘s actual brick and mortar. Often in such circumstances, you’re subject to the advisory whims salespeople and aestheticians whose credentials are “less than clear.” Or, maybe they are perfectly qualified — you just don’t want to be pushed into purchasing something or you just feel more comfortable and natural trying out looks at home.
If, like me, you’re not going to be at CES where you can demo the new tech from Perfect, that doesn’t mean you’re left out in the cold.
Two of the company’s apps, YouCam Makeup and YouCam Perfect, are already available as free downloads in both the Apple App Store and on Google Play. Apple users, you can find YouCam Makeup in the App Store here and YouCam Perfect here. On Google Play, this is the link for YouCam Makeup, while you can track down YouCam Perfect here.
It’s weird that Perfect Corp has incorporated “cam” into its naming conventions. Or, maybe it’s a sign? Either way, what do you have to lose — try out one of the apps, and let us know what you think!
