A vision board is a powerful tool that will help you get some direction with work you have completed and the projects you would like to accomplish. It is a great way to train your mind to see a line of progress from the beginning of an idea, throughout the entire process to the very end. You are basically organizing the millions of ideas that flow through your brain in a day and turning those ideas into finished work that will create results for your business.
Working from home can give you the false impression that you have all the time in the world to complete projects and do the things you need to do to make your day most efficient and productive. It takes a great deal of discipline to force yourself to webcam often and complete the other responsibilities necessary to running a smooth, successful home business. In order to do so efficiently, you need good time management skills. A vision board will help you manage your time.
For many, this requires a “To Do” list of a million things that may overwhelm you and have you feeling like you will never finish a project and complete your daily tasks. Using a vision board will provide you the visual guidance to obtaining the many things in life you want to achieve professionally.
What is a vision board?
A vision board is a collection of your thoughts, dreams and desires that helps you narrow down your professional goals through the power of choice. By creating this board, you are creating a law of attraction, which will help you manifest these chosen thoughts into reality. Seeing is believing, right? That rings true for your vision board as well.
So, how do I go about creating a professional vision board?
There are multiple steps you will need to take prior to creating your ultimate vision board in order to make it most effective and work best for your ultimate results.
1. The short term To Do list
A short term To Do list will help you organize the things you need to accomplish. You will need to organize them by priority, labeling the most important items down to the least important items. Give yourself reasonable due dates, and start knocking out each task day by day.
One of my suggestions: accomplish five things on your To Do list a day. Once you start accomplishing five things a day, you will notice that the list will begin to shorten (although you will continue to add items to your list).
2. Set short term and long term goals
Setting goals is important in the execution of your successful vision board. It is always good to have goals so you can track your progress and have an idea of what you are working hard for. Whether it’s increasing traffic to your sites, converting traffic into sales, creating more content, camming for more hours or whatever it is you want to accomplish, establishing these goals are pivotal.
3. Timeline your short term goals and to do list
Creating a timeline will be a key component of your business and keeping yourself on a reasonable track of time. It is important to be aware of how long these goals and to do list tasks should take to complete.
4. Starting your vision board
Now it’s time to create the board!
Use large sheets of poster board or foam board or whatever it is you want to use. (I use a large wipe off board.) This will be the center of your board. Whether you are creatively inclined or a beginner, this is pretty easy to do and not expensive in most cases.
5. Cutting out/writing your vision board components
You can write your visions on your wipe off board, as I do. Or, cut out things from a magazine or print them out, use sticky notes, photos or however you choose to itemize your visions — representations of your goals. Collect your vision board items, and organize them before adhering them to or writing them on your board.
Now it’s time to complete your first vision board!
It’s not uncommon to have several for different projects or aspects of your life. Whether a personal dream board with your dream house, furniture, vacation spots, cars or other things you may desire in your life or a bucket list board that details things you want to do in your life while you are able, feel free to make as many as you want. It is also not uncommon to make new boards frequently as you either change your professional direction, complete your projects and reach your goals or simply decide to move onto other aspects of your life. New dreams and different dreams are a part of envisioning your future.
Where do I store my vision board?
My vision board is in a private, quiet space in my office where there is no clutter. I call mine the “Zen Zone” and like my vision board to be as organized and peaceful. I have candles and flowers around to make it both exciting and zenful when working with organizational thoughts. I find it very calming to work on my board as I add items and remove my accomplishments. There is also very calming, relaxing music in my area to help me focus — the perfect meditation as I help my mind manifest my million thoughts!
Rituals are great for helping you create consistency. Whether you check your email first in your professional life and then make phone calls or however you execute your normal work day, having a daily routine will be very helpful in your vision board’s successful execution.
Organize your vision board to allow you easy access to your daily tasks, assigning specific items to each day and fulfilling them as you have them organized on your board.
There’s onelast thing I recommend in your vision board process: reward yourself when you accomplish even the smallest of goals and to do list tasks. A great way to really make your board work for you is to pat yourself on the back when you have successfully achieved your visions.
Visualize, create, execute and reward yourself! It’s time to get errrr’ done!
