Cam modeling is just soooo easy, isn’t it?
That’s what you’ve probably heard — and in many ways, this is true. You get a lot of freedom from camming, and it is far from back-breaking work. There also aren’t many startup costs. Who wouldn’t consider giving it a spin for some extra cash or to possibly dive into a new career?
However, starting out as a cam model can also be far from easy. Where does one start? How do tokens work? What is considered good and bad work? There seem to be more questions than answers out there.
Fret not, little newbie. At the very least, we can give you some insight into some top beginner cam model paysites — Chaturbate, Streamate, CamSoda, Skyprivate and LiveJasmin. Each one of these sites are great, but they do have their own respective pros and cons that every new model should be familiar with.
Let’s dive in, shall we?
1. Chaturbate
Chaturbate is an amateur-only live sex cam site that provides fans and viewers with free shows.
The Pros
It is very easy to set up a new account as a beginner.
Despite being “free” in a sense, you can set goals and incentives for viewers in the form of tokens. For example: One popular way of making tokens through Chaturbate is to encourage the entire chat room to throw down tokens so you will perform certain acts.
There is a very user-friendly tagging system available so your target audience can easily find your chat room.
Your bio area is under every live stream you do and is fully customizable, so you can plug other paysites, Amazon wishlists, etc. and actually get some visibility.
The Cons
It can be impersonal. If you’re a fan of cam modeling that is more one-on-one with regular clients, Chaturbate may not be your thing.
2. Streamate
Streamate is one of the most popular cam model sites out there. What they lack in pay they certainly make up for in high traffic, making Streamate a great place to try as a first-timer trying to build a presence.
Pros
You can set your own rate, which can be up to $7.99 per minute.
Editor’s Note: The possibly not relevant for “newbies,” Streamate does allow models to charge a higher per minute rate after time and success with the platform. Contact model support and have them enable it. Both Vicky Vixxx and Kendra Knight alerted us to the possibility of a higher rate.
This site gets a ton of traffic, so it is very easy to build a presence there without the need to excessively self-promote.
Expect reliable weekly pay and direct deposit.
Cons
According to some Glassdoor reviews, Streamate is notorious for taking a lot of your commission. Expect to only keep around 35 to 40 percent of your earnings.
3. CamSoda
CamSoda is another great paysite that has somewhat decent payouts and also offers VR capabilities.
Pros
You can set your own rates and get paid weekly. Expect to be paid approximately $0.05 per token earned.
CamSoda has a great support team and is very user-friendly.
There are a lot of fun “extensions” one can use in their chat room to encourage tips, such as a dice roll, prize wheel, etc.
Cons
Camsoda is unfortunately notorious for having a lot of freeloaders in their chat rooms who don’t tip well. However, this is more of a criticism of freemium cam sites in general rather than just CamSoda.
4. SkyPrivate
This newer Skype-based beginner-friendly cam site has some of the best payouts in the industry and an attractive pay-per-minute business model.
Pros
SkyPrivate uses Skype as its base, so it is very user-friendly with little learning curve.
You can earn 75 to 80 percent of your base earnings, making it quite lucrative. You also will receive on-request payments.
SkyPrivate has active protection against fraudulent chargebacks from shady members and has a no-tolerance policy for model abuse.
Cons
Their profile system isn’t the best and makes it difficult to stand out. While SkyPrivate may not be the best way to build your brand, it is a good way to make cash starting out.
5. LiveJasmin
Just about everybody who has ever looked at porn probably knows of LiveJasmin and their advertising. This has to be one of the biggest cam sites in the world with nearly 35 million users popping by on the daily.
Pros
Their website and chat rooms are visually pleasing and very user-friendly for both models and members
LiveJasmin sports a huge amount of traffic, so you’ll definitely be able to build an audience.
You can choose to ban users and guests from particular regions to protect your identity.
Cons
The pay ladder is a little complicated compared to other sites. Your percentages can be anywhere from 30 to 60 percent.
The $100 minimum payout is a bit much and can be difficult to reach quickly.
When it comes down to it, any of these cam model sites would be worth trying out as a beginner model. It wouldn’t hurt to make an account on each one and test them out yourself!

Great article Em!
Just a heads up! After you’ve been on Streamate for a while and you consistently make money, you can request that they raise your rates. I believe you can go up to $19.99 per minute. All you have to do is send in a request and ask.
Nice intro for newbies, but you missed Cam4, which is very newbie friendly, has free coaching available, and has more traffic than many of the sites in this list. I like that you highlight that there isn’t one perfect site for all, trying a few to see which fits for you is the way to start.
