Cam, clips, dance, perform, awards, seminar, trade show, store signing, influencer, campaign, model… Oh and, like, maybe go see your friends and family or — gasp! — take a break and do a little personal traveling.
This industry can have you on the road a lot. Heck, many of you are even headed out to Hollywood on October 24th for the YNOT Cam Awards.
Knowing that a lot of our readers are on the road — a “place” where most of us want to kickback and relax — many days out of the year made us take note of a recent New York Times article concerning exercise “breaks.” The takeaway? Taking a break from exercise while traveling isn’t always the best idea…
Two recent studies examined “both older and younger adults who temporarily cut back on their physical activity,” The Times reported.
Studies showed that “the metabolic consequences of not moving much for a few weeks can be pervasive and persistent, lingering to some extent even after people start moving around normally again.”
So, in the interest of helping and inspiring you to stay moving and motivated while one the road (and at home), we asked Kelley Cabbana and Natasha Nice how they stay healthy and active. Cabbana and Nice also weighed in on how they manage their online and offline social lives.
Natasha Nice Relies on Planning Ahead
Nice stressed that staying healthy while on the road is “one of the most important aspects of being an entertainer.”
“Traveling can get stressful, which can have an impact on sleep, maintaining good habits, and overall well being,” she said.
Her #1 rule for anyone who has to go on the road frequently for their career? Plan ahead. “I like to keep Vitamin C packets on me at all times to keep me functioning at my best,” she said.
“Also, if you have a certain diet or workout regiment you need to stick to, then do your best to accommodate these in whatever city you’ll be in that week.”
Nice also tries to get on cam during peak hours, but also keeps one to two days out of the week to herself. “It’s all about figuring out what works for you,” she added.
Kelly Cabbana on Keeping Fit
We asked Cabbana a few questions about keeping fit, too.
YNOT Cam: How do you stay healthy when on the road?
Kelley Cabbana: When I do travel for events, I always check out the hotels and restaurants in the area before I travel. I am a very selective eater, and I always want to be prepared for what will be available to me.
I do pack my protein shakes and power drinks every time. I do absolutely insist on a hotel with a gym. I love to workout, so it’s very important to me to stay on point when I am away. If you really educate yourself, you can pretty much travel anywhere and be able to maintain a good, healthy diet. I do have cheat days and enjoy pizza or fries, too. I think you need balance to have success.
Are there any exercises you recommend other models do while on the road or at home, even when they are pressed for time?
I love free weights. I think that they are awesome to use when you’re at home in your gym. But if you travel, I always grab my bands to take along. You can do so much with bands. They offer great resistance and are easy to pack.
I also must suggest that if you want to burn some calories, then try out high-intensity interval training (HIIT). I have fallen in love with this workout. It’s amazing, the calorie burn you can have in just a high-intensity 20 minutes — and who doesn’t have 20 minutes? Plus, if you are like me, I get bored very easily on the bike or treadmill — I need a challenge. So, these are some great tips and you can even apply these to your workouts if you are a beginner.
You also maintain a lot of various social sites. How do you manage to schedule time for self care while staying so busy?
I am very busy every day with my social status. I have many platforms I must split my time between. There are days that it all flows really great, but there are days I get a little overwhelmed with emails and posts.
Through trial and error, I have found a way to prioritize my fans. I will be online for hours on cam and also posting to all my fans about my hot new pics. I love to also use my personal assistant — Hootsuite. That helps me out. If you don’t know about Hootsuite, check it out. I recommend it to anyone who needs to set up a schedule for posting. It’s super easy.
