Are you on NiteFlirt? Do you need help with your listing design? Because that’s only one of the reasons you should contact Robin Wildheart.
Quick perusal of Wildheart’s services listing at Wildheart Designs lays it all out for you:
Back when I started on Niteflirt, I wanted to make my listings look pretty, but I didn’t know how. There were several designers who sold templates, but you had to know HTML in order to use them. As I learned how to code, I found I enjoyed making pretty designs on my own. I also found there were still lots of flirts that didn’t know how to code… I provide a service that does all the coding for you.
You can get a premade or a custom design from Wildheart, all via direct correspondence within NiteFlirt.
When I first started peeking at Wildheart on Twitter – Confession time: I do a lot of peeking and poking on Twitter #whatevs – I wanted to know more about her coding work. When I finally got the opportunity to interview her though, I learned so much more.
Wildheart has been in the adult industry since the ‘90s – a time when phone sex was conducted in a call center with a switchboard. She very generously took some time out to share a bit about her history in the industry, the changes she’s seen and what’s she doing now.
YNOT Cam: Can you tell us a bit about your background?
Robin Wildheart: I’ve been on NiteFlirt since September 9, 2008. At that time, I was a 42-year-old single mom of a five-year-old boy.
Before that, I worked the overnight shift in a phone sex call center since 1998. My son slept nights either at his father’s or his grandparent’s houses, but once he started kindergarten, he needed me to be available to pick him up from school. Having heard about NiteFlirt from former coworkers at the call center, I decided to give it a try. Becoming my own boss was intimidating but necessary.
What prompted you to begin your career in the industry back in the ‘90s?
For a few years back in the ‘90s, I was living in San Francisco. When I came back home to New York in 1998, I stayed with my parents while I found a job and a place of my own.
One night, while we were having dinner out, a lovely couple sat down next to us with their two adorable children. We exchanged phone numbers. The woman called me the next day and asked if I might happen to be looking for a job. As luck would have it, she and her husband were managers at a call center that was always hiring. I called and got an interview.
When I got there, I found out it was a phone sex dispatch office. I was amused and intrigued. It started out as a group interview where they showed a couple of BDSM clips on the VCR. Some ladies walked out on their own. Those of us remaining got individual interviews.
Oh wow! So, what was the interview like?
During the one-on-one, she asked some questions about my knowledge of domination and my comfort level talking about it. I told them I was familiar and comfortable talking about all aspects of BDSM. In a time before the World Wide Web, it wasn’t as popular as it is now, but I hung with some leather boys in San Francisco. They taught me a lot about kink, and I wanted to learn more.
For the next part of the interview, they put me on the phone. It was my first time having phone sex. The call was 28 minutes long, and I enjoyed it. I got the job on the spot.
In 2003, I left for a few months on maternity leave. When I came back, I quickly got a promotion into the training department. I was a Talker Representative. Just as it sounds, I was a liaison between talkers and management, while also taking calls.
Gosh, the industry era shifts you’ve seen are incredible. What happened next?
By 2008, a lot of people who worked in the office started working from home. The office became obsolete and eventually closed.
Niteflirt was becoming popular, and I signed up. I didn’t know a damn thing about marketing and made a lot of mistakes along the way. I do sometimes take calls from horny men, but much less than I used to. Lately, I’ve been focusing more on real life meets. I do recommend working from home for people who need to, but my son is a teenager now. I don’t have to be home all the time anymore.

I imagine you’ve seen – and heard! — so much throughout your time in the industry. What’s some advice that might help all sex workers?
When you’re a sex worker, you need to have thick skin. People talk a lot of shit about us. We have to learn to not let it matter. People judge other people no matter what they do. It’s up to each individual to decide what’s right for them. I have a cover story, but I’ve been betrayed by people I trusted. We have to learn to move on and keep focused on what matters. For me, what matters is being a financial provider for my son while maintaining a physical presence in his young life.
Having been in the phone biz for twenty years, I’ve seen a lot of technological evolution and a lot of passing trends. When I first started, we had those old fashioned switchboards with jacks and cords. Back then, seeing the people we spoke to was only a fantasy. Now, the whole world is at our fingertips and people expect to see the person with whom they’re speaking.
With all that said, I’ve been told I have a reputation for holding the hands of people new to sex work. I do enjoy being helpful and giving advice based on what I’ve learned. I like seeing people do well.
What’s the best thing about your work?
When my son was five, I made the decision to be a stay at home mom. That in itself is a full time job, but sadly, it doesn’t pay the bills. Having an occupation that allowed me to do what mattered most has been wonderful.
If you could change one thing about today’s world, what would it be and why?
The changes I’d make don’t have to do with today’s world. They’re timeless changes. If I could change anything, no one would be homeless or hungry. These are basic needs but there are some who do without. I wish I could change that on a large scale basis, and I wish the world were a more fair place.
I also wish sex work didn’t have the stigma it has. There are people who think sex workers are immoral, simply because of the work we do. I wish I had the power to change that misconception.
