Amazon wish lists are amazing, whether you’re a cam model, Twitch celebrity or someone with an upcoming birthday and clueless family members.
For people working in media online, wish lists are a great way to receive compensation in a more tangible way.
Rebecca Jennings recently wrote about wish list compensation (something a person named Mark Frauenfelder discussed as the “wishlist-compensation phenom” way back in 2002, according to Jennings) among cam models for Racked. Jennings noted that convenience is the real benefit behind making a public wish list. Things you need either for camming or your personal life can just show up at your door one day like it’s a holiday or your birthday.
One cam model named Jamie who was interviewed by Jennings stated that the wish list comes with the territory nowadays, as patrons seem to love the idea of sending gifts to cam models. “Once you make your profile, [people are] like, ‘Where is your Amazon wish list?'” Jamie said.
Safety is incredibly important when it comes to creating a public Amazon wish list, however. This is something you definitely can’t overlook if you’re considering building a cam model wish list.
According to Amazon, when you opt to create a “Public” or “Private” wish list, “they [the purchaser] will see your recipient name, birthday and city.” In a sense, there is no way to 100 percent anonymously create an Amazon wish list.
The solution is simply to get a mailbox under your cam model name. This may be more inconvenient than having mail delivered directly to your home, but boxes at third-party mailing service outlets (e.g. a UPS store) or even at an actual post office are actually pretty inexpensive and definitely worth it.
Beware of scammers, too! Anyone can unmark an item on your wish list and claim it was purchased, then immediately ask for cam favors. Be sure to check and see if the item has actually been purchased before doing anything the scammer doesn’t deserve.
So what should you put on your Amazon wish list? Let’s look at a few useful must-haves.
1. Equipment for camming
Maybe this is a bit of a stretch, especially if you’re looking to buy a new $150 webcam or a $200 condenser microphone, but it’s worth throwing the best equipment you’d like to use onto your wish list.
Should a generous patron send you a piece of useful equipment, that’s just going to improve the quality of your camming and, ultimately, your cash flow.
2. Lingerie and other outfits for camming
It’s important to pick out things that you personally enjoy wearing — not what you think viewers and patrons will want, but what makes YOU feel sexy. This doesn’t even have to be lingerie, either. It can be something cute, elegant or strip-worthy.
Patrons love buying clothing and lingerie for their favorite models to wear on-screen, which takes away the burden of having to buy your work clothing out of your own pocket. Don’t forget shoes, either!
3. Skin care and cosmetic products
Skin care is pricey. Designer fragrances are usually a few hundred dollars. Decent makeup products are expensive.
It may be surprising that patrons will even consider purchasing perfume or skin care or makeup items since those products are decidedly unsexual, but there is a sensual connection there. A patron will know what you smell like, what you’re wearing on your skin, etc. — and therein lies the incentive to buy. So, put up your favorite products!
4. Gift cards
Amazon carries gift cards for everything from restaurants to grocery stores to department stores. Why not take advantage of those?
Pick a few of your favorite shops, and add those gift cards to your wish list.
5. Sex toys
Did you think I’d skip this one? Let’s be real. Hitachi Wands are extremely expensive. Sex toys in general are extremely expensive.
This is probably the #1 thing patrons are going to purchase for you from your wish list, so be sure to pick out things you’d actually be interested in using outside of camming. This include props as well, such as BDSM items or any other accessories you’d like to use while camming.
All of these items are great must-haves for your Amazon wish list, but keep in mind that gifts from patrons may be few and far between. Still, you may be surprised with a package at your door as soon as tomorrow!
