It’s too hot to wear makeup when it’s 107 degrees outside — no joke, that’s what the heat index said yesterday — but I’d be lying if I told you that makeup isn’t also super fun, heat be damned. The solution: lip gloss.
Lip gloss is no muss, no fuss and generally summertime-friendly. Here are three fun options to try — just don’t leave them sitting in the sun!
Lime Crime Wet Cherry Gloss
The newest addition to Lime Crime’s lip collection is this high-shine gloss. It comes in fourteen total colors, with two different finishes: translucent Juicy Sheer and Sparkly Sheer, which is packed with iridescent pearls (read: glittery, like the Disco Cherry and Juicy Cherry shades pictured below). I’m not super into glittery, but these look awesome of that’s your finish of choice.
Reviews laud the formulation’s light, non-sticky feel and say it actually smells like cherries (“cherries”) too.

M.A.C. Hint of Colour Lip Oil
These color-changing glosses launched last year but only just became available in the U.S. this past March. This formulation is the most magical – literally, just a slight tint and some shine that fades into a stain.
This gloss comes in four shades: Doll to Diva (hot pink), Pale Princess (a lemon yellow that turns pink), La La Love You (magenta red) and Candy Drop (grape purple). I have tried Doll to Diva (my fav) and La La Love You (also awesome). Both shades create a look that I swear I’ve been searching for my whole life — natural-adjacent, but with some pop.

Chanel Poudre a Levres Lip Balm and Powder Duo
What even is this… for summer? Apparently.
I read about this, and it was too *interesting* not to share. This limited-edition duo features a colorful matte powder that comes in three shades. The powder can be worn alone or mixed with the moisturizing balm for a blurred, artistic effect on lips and/or cheeks.
The compact holds one brush and one spongy-looking applicator. You can use your fingertips or the sponge to dot balm all over your lips. Then, add powder with your fingertips or the brush and blend. The more powder, the brighter the color. For cheeks, rub it in like blush.
For $37, I’m not sure I’m willing to experiment. It looks fancy and cool though. (here)
