It’s officially spring — which means that the AWSummit and the AW Awards are getting close again!
We recently spoke to Caroline Mayer, who is part of the Charm Studios community and a nominee for Live-Cam Girl of the Year.
YNOT Cam: How long have you been working in cam?
Caroline Mayer:This is the very first question everybody is asking me when they find out I’m a cam model. “No, cmon, you look like 18!” Well actually, I’m 22 years old, and I’ve been doing live-camming for almost three years now.
What prompted you to begin your career online?
Well, first of all, I am not from Bucharest, I’m from Chisinau. It’s a lovely place to be, really, and it’s definitely one that I consider my home, however, it didn’t offer me the opportunities I wanted. I really dreamed about coming to Bucharest and living here, even since I was a child.
I took the first job I could find, waitressing at a small restaurant in the middle of the Bucharest. It worked for a while, sort of, and it taught me what it feels like to work under… pressure. Yes, “pressure” is the perfect word, because it was the stressful job. Unfortunately, the money wasn’t really good though, and I reached the point of not being able to live comfortably, even with two flat-mates. I then started looking for well-paid jobs for people without experience, and I stumbled upon ads and articles about live-camming. I went to some interviews and then I found Charm Studios, and I haven’t looked back since.
What can you tell us about your online experiences? What challenges have you encountered as a cam girl?
Oh wow, there’s so much to say here, where do I even start? It was very difficult for me at the beginning. I was completely new and, even if I’m a fast learner, it was still difficult to take in all the things I had to do. I had to work really hard and stay many hours online before things started to get better – and, to be fair, when they did, it was excellent. Success in this industry certainly doesn’t compare with any other field.
I still remember my very first private. It was with a member named John, and oh my fuuucking God I was soooo nervous! He was super nice and saw that, so, instead of the usual, he actually asked me to do dares, like hop around the room on one leg, do some stretching moves, hold some poses. I definitely tested my flexibility then. It definitely put me at ease though, completely, and I actually still talk to him even today. He comes to my room regularly.
As for challenges… I’m no longer shy and self-conscious, so the difficulties are related to staying original and doing things to keep the mood in the room interesting. I don’t want anyone getting bored when they come see me.
What’s it like to be nominated for Live-Cam Girl of the Year?
To be honest I still can’t believe it’s happening. I didn’t think I’d ever get a nomination, and I’m so humbled and happy to have gotten here. I’m really looking forward to the gala and going there with the Charm Studios team. Even if I don’t win, it’s still gonna be an amazing experience.
Who is the person behind the camera? What are your hobbies and passions?
I have two big passions, horses and cars. I’ve loved riding horses ever since I was small and took advantage of every opportunity I had to do that. I still occasionally go to the countryside to indulge. It’s something that I simply cannot live without. There are few things that can compare to riding at full speed, wind blowing through my hair… Cliché, I know, but it’s such a rush. As for cars, it was actually one of my life-long dreams to get a big, powerful car, and I managed to achieve that by working as a cam model. Other than that, I have regular hobbies, you know. Going out with friends, having fun, movies, music… and, yeah, I really love to sing, but I am a baaad singer.
If you could change one thing about today’s world, what would it be and why?
Oh, that’s an easy one: I’d change all the prejudice that people have while talking about camming. Honestly so many people are closed-minded and derisive about this job, but they have no idea how it works, at all. It takes so much effort and a lot of skills, and there is absolutely no reason not to be proud of it. In an ideal world, no one would bat an eye when I told them I’m a cam girl.
