Buttercup wants you to send your nudes so the social media platform can pay you for them. This sounds promising!
What is Buttrcup?
Buttercup wants to be the social media site that allows women, men, couples, photographers and curators to share their tasteful nudes. The site boasts a NSFW vibe that allows users to #FreeTheNipple.
Molly Murphy and Michael Edwards, the site creators, launched Buttercup in October 2017. Previously, Murphy worked for Jimmyjane, a pleasure product/sex toy brand. Edwards is a photographer who is based in New York.
How Buttrcup works
1. A user can sign-up for a free account. That account allows the user to access the Discovery Feed. This Feed is where all public posts from content creators go.
2. Users can then find content creators they like and follow those creators to see their posts, photo sets, and free videos.
3. If a user wants to, they can then visit the Video Section on Buttercup to make one-time OnDemand video purchases.
“Though there have been a few start-ups in the sexuality realm that have been funded, this category, while it has huge potential, is largely ignored by VC’s because of the taboos,” Murphy said in a TechCrunch article.
“We have compared the content to Playboy, we have some really great photographers and models who are providing content that is sexy, risqué and yet not too explicit. We say ‘it is nudity, yet non porn.’”
Murphy added that “unlike Playboy the creators are in complete control of what they create.” She said the service is very similar to self-publishing.
Murphy thinks this personal aspect allows the people posting on Buttercup to be “in control of their own content and image, which is important when it comes to sexual boundaries.”
She added that Buttercup’s content creators also receive money directly from each subscriber. There is no cap on how much they can earn, TechCrunch reported.
What this means for you
According to Buttrcup, content creators who have a “following of fans who would like to see more than you share on your social sites” is their ideal demographic. It’s also perfect for “visual creators” — and that term fits cam models quite well.
Buttrcup also could give you another way to get money from your fans. Although the site doesn’t allow explicit pornography, it would allow you to share provocative, sexy snaps, photosets and videos.
