As with working anywhere, we now have to work smarter to stay “in the game.” In any business, those who can adapt the fastest reap the rewards. This is why it is essential to work smart and multitask, keep your tools fresh, and always think “customer service.”
Keep tools fresh
It is important to ensure you have a good working environment with everything at hand. So, before even starting, it’s important to prepare — and I don’t mean only clothes and makeup. It’s essential to make sure you have the tools for the job and they’re in good working order (and I don’t mean just fully charged batteries in the vibro toy).
Keeping up to date with the latest trends and technologies is an important part of keeping your tools fresh. From apps to file-sharing and storage, technology can enable you to work from almost anywhere and keep your customers happy. Another bonus: Effectively utilizing technology can help you stay organized. With organization come boundaires, allowing you to have a personal life.
Map out strategy and multitask
Any successful business needs a strategy, not only for the next few weeks, but longer term. A successful business, which is what each model should aim to run (I know I do!) should be thinking about the future. Where do you want to be in two months? What about in two years? How do you get there? Thinking ahead makes changes in your life easier to deal with. Circumstances always will change, but if we plan ahead we can be prepared, adapt and continue to be successful.
Part of planning includes the ability to multitask. In a lot of cases, we are one-woman companies, so we must multitask and balance or risk losing out in either the business or our personal lives. This is something I do not intend to do. It is important to keep a good work/life balance and this is possible with planning, multitasking and using the latest technologies.
Good customer service leads to regulars
I always aim to provide the service my customers want, as well as to find new customers and make them want more. Repeat customers are a major source of income in any business, so customer satisfaction must always be high on the list of priorities. If we give the customer what he wants, he will come back. Customer loyalty also can play a major role in a successful business; however, unless you effectively multitask, this will not be possible. Someone will feel left out, be it a customer or in your private life.
Clear eyes, open eyes, can’t lose
For any model, keeping your eyes open is key. Keep your eyes open regarding new trends and technologies, not just within our industry but in the larger world. There may be other businesses using technology that could benefit us. Also keep your eyes open to possible business opportunities wherever they may arise.
Another tip: Don’t be afraid to promote yourself. As someone once told me, “90 percent of new and good opportunities go to people who are known. It doesn’t matter why they’re known, but if people know your name you’re already ahead of the game.”
