Ever since Snapchat brought us the most addictive thing on the planet — geofilters — we’ve grown attached to many of the popular mainstays in the filters’ ever-changing lineup. From tomato faces and rainbow vomit to flower crowns and kitty-foxes, it’s gotten to a point where the filter-faces you share with the world actually say a lot about you, your style, your overall disposition, and what it’s like in your room.
Don’t believe me? Think about your favorite filter on this list, and see if I’ve got you pegged.
Flower crown
Ah yes, the good old crown of pink and white flowers that magically makes our eyes burst with prettiness and our face blush like a slightly embarrassed cherub. If this is the filter you use most, it’s safe to say you probably wish you were at Coachella, lying on the grass and listening to music and the screams of drunk 20-somethings. The crown filter is pretty and innocent; however, it’s not so innocent that it’s childish. You wear the crown filter to show you’re a grown woman who likes to be playful. Nothing wrong with that.
Dog face
This one is so popular it has earned the reputation of being “basic,” but I ask you: What’s the harm in being a little basic? If you’re all up in the dog filter 24/7, you’re probably very excited about pumpkin spice lattes being in season, too. The dog face is flirty, but in a confusing way. Mainly because it leaves a lot of us wondering, “Why am I attracted to a dog right now?” In this sense, you might appear to be conventional, but deep down there is a mystery behind you. You’re intriguing — and best of all, you like to lick with that big tongue of yours.
Face swap
Always changing faces? You’re someone who is always up for trying something new. You’re not fixed to a certain style or aesthetic. You’re a risk taker when it comes to your appearance, but deep down your personality will never change. You’re always going to be you, no matter what face you’re wearing.
Fox
The cute little orange fox stepped up the animal-face game, adding a voice changer too. It’s less sexy than the dog filter and more of a mask. Less sexy does not mean unattractive, though — it just means attractive in a different way. Fox transforms the face more than most other filters, meaning if this is your favorite, you probably prefer to keep your true self hidden from the world. You prefer someone go out of their way to get to know you, as opposed to putting in the effort yourself.
(Our snaps model didn’t have fox, so here we have the rare and alluring kitty-fox.)
Glow
Unlike the fox, you’ve got nothing to hide. Well, except for maybe some blemishes. You’re practical and don’t like to put on airs. You want to look good, but you don’t see the need for too much extra fluff. You might be an old soul, in this sense. You like things to stay classic, but you still want to look perfect. You’re nostalgic and see things from your past with a similar glow.
Well — do I know you, or do I know you? In truth, there’s something really beneficial about the ubiquity of these Snapchat filters. By being so recognizable, they allow us to play with our image in a lighthearted way while still being flirty and sexy — because the other thing I know (besides you!) is that flirty and sexy are the name of the game.
