Though there’s much to be said for learning-by-doing and lived experience, we also love the idea of school. Be it a university, trade school, or informal class, the idea of completing coursework in order to become proficient in some skill or career is pretty familiar.
Everyone from teachers to doctors to estheticians get some type of training in the process of mastering their career skills, but for webcam? Well, there really isn’t a school for that. At least, not until recently.
Webcam coach and mentor Juan Bustos launched Juan Bustos University earlier this month. The online university will teach virtual courses offering in-depth training to prospective cam models from 2-4 pm EST every Thursday. Based out of Columbia, the classes will focus on Spanish speaking models.
Bustos wrote, “It is a general feeling, in the webcam community, that a space is required for a much deeper learning, which offers inscrutable knowledge to better profile the work of a webcam model. This work is not just sex and, as in art, talents must be developed. For that reason it is indispensable to study to learn.”
Sponsored by Cam4, the classes are free and will include invited models and consultants key to the development and growth of the Colombian webcam industry. You can listen to the lessons and see the visuals via simple chatroom lurking. If you want to actually participate, however, you must open an account on Cam4 and visit the JuanEsBustos virtual classroom.
Topics will cover business strategies and how-tos — everything from how to gain traffic to visual angles and lighting. They’re also going to explore topics related to psychology — regarding both your own inner psychology as a model and the interactive relationship you have with clients’ psyches.
This idea of webcam school is very interesting. On one hand, it’s taking a method and form of learning that we are almost universally familiar with. This has to be a good thing! And even though some of the topics are very basic, these type of basics might be very beneficial for new models — or even for people who are still just thinking about becoming a model. But on the other hand, no classroom can replace the actual *doing* of anything.
